...well what a pile of cak

Chatting it over with dp after in bed I was laughing so much i couldn't speak

The carefully plavced words..it needs a jump start

the ease with which he pushes the car through that boggy fiel

The bad penny team who keep turing up with guns

Big Questions

what the heck is the plot...none

Is Miriam that gardening detective in Rosemary and Thyme?

What is the main actor bloke normally in?

How many trash films has michael Caine been in?

Was the final scene indeed filmed in a swimming pool?

Is this the most random film ever seen?

Is it worse than the Trench?

i saw it - i didn't laugh so much as sigh - in a kind of " was that some arty shit i just don't get" kind of way.

wasnt the main bloke in teachers?

any way it was severely dissapointing.

bakedpotato · 22/01/2007 12:19

lol
I semi-enjoyed it but I know exactly where you're coming from. It's adapted from a rather brilliant thriller by PD James (in the same apocalyptic vein as Day of the Triffids/Handmaid's Tale).
Clive Owen is usually quite hot (Croupier/Closer)
Miriam was also Ma in Darling Buds
I'll have to leave the other qs to someone else.

so did the book actually make sense

i got the impression the film was made by someone who watched too much children's TV drama serials in the seventies and liked Waterworld

book is really good, honest
they cut too much out for film to make much sense, as is often the way
Also the film was so noisy, it was difficult to follow the dialogue

zippitippitoes · 22/01/2007 14:56

dp chose it..his verdict

the gun fights were good perhaps the next film they make will be better as they are good at doing gun fights!

how does this baby save the world?

where is the boat going to go at the end and what is the human project

and last but not least why is it the whole film full of pet dogs? they obviously have no trouble breeding

OP posts:
nailpolish · 22/01/2007 14:58

i saw it and liked it

i get v tense when a baby is involved and i was actually shouting "hurry up! for fucks sake!" at the bit where they had to jump start the car

expatinscotland · 22/01/2007 14:59

Does Clive Owen get naked in it?

Dinosaur · 22/01/2007 14:59

Oh, what a shame - I really liked the book.

nailpolish · 22/01/2007 15:00

unfortunately not expat

but he is rather grubby and dishevelled

and smokes a lot

expatinscotland · 22/01/2007 15:00

Mmmmm.

I like that type.

Especially naked.

bakedpotato · 22/01/2007 15:04

Yeah, you can practically smell CO in it.

it has stayed with me, though, the film, quite atmospheric

I was disappointed that in final stages there's no scene around/inside the bexhill pavilion. waht's the point of them all going to bexhill if the pavilion doesn't appear?

expatinscotland · 22/01/2007 15:05

If he's not going to get naked, I'm not going to watch it.

bakedpotato · 22/01/2007 15:07

he gets stoned with michael caine and also delivers a baby in manly fashion, would that do it for you, expat?
