Why do film credits still exist?

Why don't they just have a tiny subtitle of a URL you can visit for the credits come up at the start, and then that's it?

Now that films take so much funding, it's truly bizarre to have all the overcomplicated brand identity 'films' at the beginning (they're getting longer and longer and more and more of them) and really, wouldn't it help get into the film if we didn't have lists of names or a title?

But the thing is that it's important which director it is and who produced it and who wrote the score! If you really like films you tend to notice that. I don't know why they put absolutely everyone who had anything to do with it, but if you've made that film what it was, you need a mention.

They even list the caterers and the pet handlers Hmm.

I think I value Jeff the onion picker's creative contribution to my life just as much as the production catering assistant on Dolphin Tale 2 Grin

There would be uproar in the industry if they got rid of credits; they're all freelancers constantly looking for the next job, from the runners up.
