One of the sexiest films I've ever seen!

so superb on the nature of self-harming and the relationship between feelings of being subsumed by family and unable to articulate or even feel emotions and cutting.

And fantastic on the liberation that can come about for some people when they play out those roles of helplessness and domination sexually.

god it was such a good film as it did all that and was sexually explicit with a light, sometimes comedic touch.

maggie gyllenghal (sp?) was fantastic, and james spader did his usual sexually explicit stuff superbly (i do feel sorry for him though, all his career he has been cast in these kinds of role).

I loved it. I actually found maggie quite sweet and endearing even with all the kinkiness.

expat, i get how you feel about spader (i used to like him but then went off him as the years went by) but this film transcends that. It is superb on so many levels.

Might have to buy it. Feels like the kind of film that would reward repeat viewings (the stuff with her mum and dad is fantastically done).

Actually, I'd like to revise my opinion. I was basing his yumminess rating on his appearance in Stargate.
I've just google imaged him and he look quite horrid in most of the photos.

Saw it in the cinema when it came out -- it was a really sweet and romantic film (IMO). Unusually sweet and romantic, admittedly.

ooohh is it that good then , bought it on dvd as was ineterestd , but havent got round to watching it yet. MIght get dh in the mood as hes rather err into high heels secretary look and we errr dont have much in that dept these days.
