New James Bond - fantastic, but not for children

I loved it - the best Bond film for ages, and I was a die-hard Pierce fan - but please think twice about taking under 12s - there are two very graphic death scenes, one torture scene and numerous deaths. Just wanted to warn you!

Thanks Satine. In the paper it said something about "torture scene" that caught my attention. Sounds like it's a definite no for ds1 (9) then.

I'll have to get a babysitter so that dh and I can go and see it!

SnafuOutOfHiding · 18/11/2006 15:16

Agree - it's darker than previous films and the violence is far more graphic.

Anyway, having the kids there will just get in the way of drooling at Daniel Craig's pecs. Muscular doesn't usually do it for me but, man, he is something else...

satine · 18/11/2006 17:39

Just thought I'd bump for the early evening shift who haven't gone to the meet up!

Daniel Craig is just lovely in this. And the two main female characters are beautiful. Especially the first one, who has made me feel thoroughly ashamed of how little I go to the gym!!

I'm really looking forward to this, we're going to go and see it when we go to a hotel for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary.

mummydear · 18/11/2006 20:10

haven't seen it yet but keep drooling over the pictures of Daniel Craig coming out of the water in those shorts !!!

just off to have another drool.....

Mala · 18/11/2006 21:25

Daniel Craig-haven't seen anything so yum in my life-dh is getting sick about my drooling. Deffo think he is the best Bond.

Ready · 19/11/2006 20:18

here here about Daniel Craig - the best Bond, ever. But didn't anyone think that the lovey dovey stuff went on just a tad?? And I so didn't buy into this brute of a man falling head over heels so quickly.

chestnuttyroastingbythefire · 20/11/2006 19:02

Yummy Daniel.
Good film.
A lot of stuff unbelievable - quite apart from the stunts - but het it was entertaining.

Mimie2403 · 21/11/2006 20:34

I was one of those skeptics with regards to Daniel Craig but he won me over completely! He is brilliant.

mousiemousie · 24/11/2006 16:41

I'm going tonight...can't wait!

mousiemousie · 24/11/2006 21:15

Fab film, but I was unconvinced by why Bond would fall so hard for Vesper?

Can't wait for the next one now....

BellaLasagne · 26/11/2006 17:50

Loved DC - he's gorgeous but unsure as to the nature of his Bond. He is very gritty, and not at all suave and sophisticted like the others before him (Saun's still my favourite!).

Although it's an exciting film, there is a sad lack of the usual Bond formula, e.g no Q or Moneypenny!!

Re. the torture scene - my 7 yr old watched it OK but she found the soundtrack scary because the cinema had the volume up too high (why do they do this?), not what was on the screen. However, she is quite a hardy Bond fan and other children might be scared.

HTH

fortyplus · 27/11/2006 00:58

DC absolutely GORGEOUS. Film went on far toolong, especially the 'free running' chase sequence at the beginning. I was checking my watch after about an hour and a half.

Spectacular special effects but NOT for younger children or any that are very sensitive.

ellasxmasshoppingmadmum1 · 28/11/2006 00:39

at 7 year old watching it!! I was squirming through some of those death/torture scenes.

BellaLasagne · 28/11/2006 10:32

Don't worry, she's pretty hardy and has a Dad and big brother who watch lots of cowboy, martial arts, WW2 films etc. Nothing gory or extreme, she just takes it in her stride and ignores it mostly.

mamijacacalys · 29/11/2006 14:39

Agree with fortyplus.

DC is gorgeous - partic naked torso in the torture scene phwoar(!) but agree with the Jonathan Ross review that the central poker game sequence could've been edited down more. Free climbing stunts at start were breathtaking.

Can't wait for the next one!

Skribble · 29/11/2006 14:42

My two have seen it, I knew the torture scene was coming up so me and DD7 went for juice. Other that that it was OK, but DD is really into the making of films and the behind the scenes stuff. DS age 10 has seen it twice now.

Agree some kids will be upset by it, thats why it is 12A, so suss it out first.

dara · 29/11/2006 14:45

I didn't think the Vesper girl was good enough as an actress and found the love stuff unconvincing because of her. Thought the film was 20-30mins too long esp at the end. Thought the villain wasn't scary enough (he was more scared than scary) and I hated that there wasn't a 'proper' Bond title sequence with the OOs and the theme up front. But I enjoyed the film, esp DC in his t-shirts with those arms on show...

CrocodileKate · 29/11/2006 18:45

Saw it today. A lot I loved, some of it I wasn't convinved by, but ohhhhhh those eyes!!!!!!
The pecs weren't too bad either!

laneydaye · 29/11/2006 18:47

Are you still harping on about this satine?

nikkie · 30/11/2006 19:50

Its the 1st time I have watched a Bond and I really enjoyed it.Very squeamish at the torture scenes though and by the end I didn't trust anyone!

catkin555 · 04/12/2006 17:13

I've seen it twice now Was hoping that my totally over the top obsession for the gorgeous Daniel Craig was just pregnancy hormones??
