I really enjoyed The young Victoria with Emily Blunt. It was on I player but I'm not sure if it is now.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 02/07/2015 13:22

Recently I've watched The Edge Of Love and Attonement - both WWII.

Wilde - Victorian.

Rent - 90s.

All very much enjoyed.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/07/2015 13:24

I haven't seen the Edge of Love or the young Victoria

Thank you both Smile

Does it have to be English ?

Tess is wonderful though I know some boycott watching Roman Polanski's

LeBearPolar · 02/07/2015 13:25

I love the Joe Wright Pride and Prejudice but many hate it because of a) the absence of Colin Firth and b) the presence of Keira Knightley.

I can watch Sense and Sensibility over and over again. Which versions of all the films you mention have you seen? - there are multiple Jane Eyres! How about Tess of the D'Urbervilles with Gemma Arterton or Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds?

Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds. Oh, yes.

TheTravellingLemon · 02/07/2015 13:44

Not a film, but I recently watched Parade's End for the first time and loved it.

teacupnic · 02/07/2015 13:46

I think I might be sleep deprived. I took 'period film' to be a film you watch while you're on your period rather than a costume drama type thing...

petitdonkey · 02/07/2015 13:47

Young Victoria is fabulous - I find Emily Blunt mesmerising.

I did read your thread title as "I've got my period and need something comforting to watch" though Grin

One of my most favourite films is "The Go Between" starring Julie Christie, Edward Fox and Alan Bates.

I know it's an old film but it has remained one of my favourites, haven't seen it for years but out the blue it was on TV about 6 months ago and it was just as good. It's set in 1900 and is so atmospheric and beautifully shot.

OwlOffshore · 02/07/2015 13:57

Another vote for the version of Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds. It's fab, fab, fab.

Or Parade's End if you need something on Netflix.

cosmicglittergirl · 02/07/2015 13:57

The 2007 version of Persuasion is good.
BBC's North and South is excellent. Proper brooding.

With the permission of the OP, we are going to shimmy this one over to Films.

My next movie is Edge of Love - the only one Sky is doing

Can't find Persuasion on sky/now/Netflix

The Duchess is good. If you don't mind Keira Knightley, but that role kind of suits her
