Films for a 10 year old girl

I've got my nieces for a sleepover soon, one is 9 and the other 11.

Their Mum does show them quite a few films but I wanted to have a choice of a couple for this weekend that hopefully they've not seen!

The 9yo is not immature, but still scares easy.

I was thinking maybe an 80s classic, like Big or Goonies? Is something like Freaky Friday too mature?

I'd go with the Goonies or big, they never get old.

Care with The Goonies.
It's fab, but it's very sweary. I was a little shocked at how racy it was. Big also has some fairly 'whoa' moments, but is very good.

However, my DD loved it. Also, The Princess Bride is good, and The Parent Trap. They also loved Pitch Perfect, but I did have to say 'you didn't hear that' a few times when the word 'bitches' was used.

I think they would cope with swear words as long as they were few and far between. They are well used to their Auntie swearing! Thanks for the warning re Goonies. I will miss it this time.

Mine were also enjoying something about Fried Worms the other day.
Think they also liked A Dolphins Tale.

Probably best to avoid showing them The Human Centipede.

I showed my two (DD 9 and DS 7) the Goonies the other day. They were TRANSFIXED!! Loved it. I'm planning on Jurassic Park soon, although took kids to Disney at Easter, and DS was terrified by the dino ride so think he may protest.

My 10 year old niece loved How To Train Your Dragon last weekend (and so did I to be honest) I think that would go down quite well.

Jurassic Park, Lady and the Tramp, Jumanji, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Black Beauty, the Secret Garden, Charlotte's Web.

Oh and the Velveteen Rabbit.

My dad is 9 and I found my v. Old copy of girls just want to have fun when we moved house a few months back. It's a bit dated but she absolutely loved it and no swear words.

Bridge To Terabithia my nieces (10, 13) enjoyed it.

My 10 yo recently watched Legally Blonde and loved it !

She's also loving the new Annie at the moment

Theselittlelights I know I was a bit wary to let her watch it but there's only a few wee inappropriate bits but I'm certain they went over her head

The Goonies can be really scary to some kids, I would avoid it.

Big is good but all 80s films are quite racy in parts eg Splash.

My 9 and 12 year old love Freaky Friday and the Parent Trap, BEnd it like Beckham, St Trinians (think some mild swearing in this)

My 9yo loves School of Rock (just skate over the 'groupies' bit).
She also loves the Tintin film.
Despicable me, Rango, the How to train your dragon films.

9 year old DD loves Indiana jones, back to the future and bill & Ted.
Other favourites are despicable me, cloudy with a chance of meatballs & Jumanji

Oh, and she loves Pride and Prejudice (kiera knightly version) , Emma and Sense and Sensibility.

I must be a terrible mother... DD9 has been watching Jurassic Park, The Goonies, Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Flash Gordon and all other sorts of unsuitable films since she was 6 or 7. She loves them all! She is very excited about Jurassic World coming out and keeps watching the trailer over and over.

youngestisapyscho me too!, it depends on the children though. Dd has friends that would have nightmares for a month if they watch anything more scary than frozen.

yes some parents get very proud of their children watching 12 films at 6 or 7

as the youngest of three my daughter certainly watched the odd film that was a bit inappropriate but none of them particularly like scary films.

Some children are naturally more sensitive and thoughtful than others so I would err on the side of caution if they were not my children.
