Avengers Age of Ultron your thoughts?

I have to say I was a little disappointed by this. It was definitely not as strong as the original movie. James Spaders character is great as is Elizabeth Olson's but I found the story not as tight as the previous film. I must have missed Loki's appearance (came in after the movie started) unless he appears right at the very end.

I saw it last night, it's not the best MCU film by a long shot but certainly not the worst.

It very much felt like a set up film rather than the culmination of Phase Two which is what I was expecting. A lot of events seemed to be a means to get characters to where they need to be for the start of Phase Three.

It obviously suffered from being very heavily edited. According to an interview with Joss Whedon there's an hour of footage which was cut from the film and it really shows in places.

It was still enjoyable though, particularly Ultron himself. It was nice to get a bit of back story for Black Widow, I'm hoping there'll be a bit more in the extended version.

Overall I'd say it was fun but not 100% satisfying as a film in and of itself. It did, however, hugely whet my appetite for Phase Three especially with the little scene during the credits Grin

Whatever Loki's scene was, it was cut from the final release. Apparently we'll get it in the DVD extras along with an alternative ending and an extended version of the film.

I didn't think it was particularly good either. Definitely not on comparison levels with Iron Man 3 though - that was awful! Hoping the 3rd will be much improved as I really enjoyed Avengers Assemble. I also didn't notice a Loki scene?

I would have liked something to explain why they wanted to create ultranationalist. The romance bits were just rubbish. For me they really weakened the film.

I liked it but thought the story didn't have enough twists.

SmartAlecMetalGit · 02/05/2015 13:37

Amazon have now back tracked a little and have sent out a mail saying they're hoping to offer the extended version etc. on DVD/blue-ray but it's not yet confirmed Hmm

The film itself was much better on second viewing, my expectations were definitely what did the damage first time round. It's not another Avengers Assemble but it's not supposed to be, a lot has happened in the MCU between the two and the tone of the film is in keeping with that.

I absolutely loved it! Watched it as a third film in Avengers 1, Winter Soldier trilogy at the cinema opening night.

Lardylassnomore · 02/05/2015 14:17

mtw I wanted more twists too. Aaron Taylor Johnson was underused. I would have liked to see more of his character.

I loved it, as did my comic nerd ex who i saw it with.

prorsum · 04/05/2015 18:29

A bit disappointed with it. There was just too much crash bang. I liked the twins a lot and was glad to see Nick Fury, though there was not enough of him. Ultron made no sense to me at all; he had no character to either like or hate. I'm bored with Iron Man and his wise cracks and the Romanov/Hulk love story was just bonkers.

The first Avengers set the bar really high I guess. Number 2 may grow on me; I didn't like The Winter Soldier when I first saw it but it's one of my favourites.

AstoriaMalfoy · 04/05/2015 18:37

I really enjoyed it but need to see it again to pick up everything. It's very full on and did feel like they were setting up infinity war. Loved the twins though especially Scarlett Witch . The Banner/Widow relationship felt wrong some how . It's seemed to be spring from nowhere. Also felt they took some of Natasha's character away. Didn't like the fact she became the damsel in distress at the end. Rarely not her at all.

As a Loki fan I was gutted the scene was cut but I think he will have more impact in Ragnorok because it was. However I think he was the hooded man in the Thor 'vision'. Will see on the blu Ray deleted scenes.

Overall not as good as the 1st one but still epic and I will see it again at the cinema.

blueemerald · 04/05/2015 18:43

I've just got home from seeing it and I was pretty underwhelmed. I've not seen the first film.
The jokes were so weak and Scarlett Johansson's character was pretty pathetic. The romance felt really shoehorned in too.

gemdrop84 · 05/05/2015 21:25

I watched it and thought it was ok, I could tell a lot was cut as it felt...a bit rushed and Ultron was not as badass as I expected! Was cool to see Vision. Was more pleased with the sneak peek at the very end. I've just bought myself a copy of the Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus as an early birthday present so that made me quite happy! -Geek Alert- Grin

MummyPiggy87 · 05/05/2015 23:50

Loved it, we saw it in 3d and all loved it.

GatoradeMeBitch · 06/05/2015 00:31

I hated the Black Widow/Hulk storyline. That was so weak. The flirting made me cringe, and it just wasn't believable. You can't have biological children and that puts you on a par with someone who may have just rage-smashed people to death?! It's like, well we have this character with a vagina, she has to have sex withsomeone, because why else have a character with a vagina?

I did enjoy the fighting scenes, the one at the start, and the one at the end. The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver characters were great, and I like that Hawkeye got more screen time. But why did most of the Avengers have nothing to say about the fact that Tony Stark created Ultron? And why didn't SW/QS say anything to TS about the missiles which killed their family? The direction of the film was all over the place. But I did see it twice, so I didn't hate it!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/05/2015 00:41

Hulk and Widow? Really? Shock

I thought perhaps her and Hawkeye. Wouldn't mind watching him in a love scene.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 06/05/2015 00:42

Lots of trailers where I went to see it, 'Antman' looks promising!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/05/2015 00:42

Actually that sounds worse than I meant. Banner on his own is lovely but picture the Hulk, jesus.

Lardylassnomore · 06/05/2015 08:24

Yes the whole romance thing was just wrong. I liked it when the SW was more feisty. I hated Paul Bettanys character too. I could see him being the villain in future.

Ooh is Paul Bettany in it? I love him.
