We have literally just rented it off blinkbox.... Will let you know shortly!!! Am liking so far.... I even stopped mumsnetting briefly Shock

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/01/2015 23:09

DH was watching it, so I was MN while it was on.

Didn't grab me.

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:10

We have JUST finished watching it. Are you Lucy? Can you see us??

I really enjoyed it. Different. SJ was very good & I liked the concept. And the French policeman - the way he reacted to it.

Samcro · 17/01/2015 23:11

i have just watched it,
i wanted more......

I thought it was arse gravy, but I tend to overanalyse the realism of sci-fi. And Lucy just wasn't remotely realistic.

MorrisZapp · 17/01/2015 23:12

Saw a film called Wendy and Lucy once, was ace. About poverty in small town USA. Michelle Williams was great in it. I think Lucy was her dog's name.

starsandunicorns · 17/01/2015 23:12

Loved it felt it was a bit rushed at the end

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:13

It was short. 86 mins? I think it could have been a little longer, but spinning it out more might have spoiled it.

Skinheadmermaid · 17/01/2015 23:17

It annoyed me because the concept that gets bandied about all the time that we only use 10% of our brains is a myth.
So i disagreed with the whole core concept of the film & thought it was a load of bollucks.
I like sci fi but this was banal and schlocky. Very basic, obvious storyline thats been done a hundred times better in other media.
Also i can't stand scarlett johanson and thought the other performances were lack luster.
Dh on the other hand was enthalled by it, thought it was brilliant and original & was pissed off by my grumbling.
But he doesn't read books or comics. Wink

Blueblueblueblue · 17/01/2015 23:20

I was really looking forward to it and was pretty disappointed by it.

The ending in particular didn't work for me.

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:21

Don't sit on the fence skinhead Smile

Samcro · 17/01/2015 23:22

Blueblueblueblue

I do have labrynthitis & am spaced on prochlorazapine though.

I quite like Luc Besson films. Usually nice imagery & metaphor. I think I'd like about (pardon basing this on 10% theorum - I know it's actually rather higher than that) 40% ability.

Although at the minute I'm more like Lucy the proto-human.

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:32

I didn't see it as revenge, though. Like Morgan Freeman's character told her to do - she was passing the knowledge on. The police took care of the people who did it to her, she left them with the memory stick (presumably in a format they could understand) about how to move humanity forwards. Then dissipated at the molecular level to 'merge'.

Bloody hell these drugs are good.......

songbird · 17/01/2015 23:32

I thought it was shite, and went to bed before the end. When DH told me how it ended I was glad I did! Thought SJ was so dull and monotonous in it - who said lacklustre? That's just the word!

To put into perspective I was able to sit through the whole of Battleship last night, which is even more ludicrous than Lucy but marginally more enjoyable - I was able to laugh at it, at least!

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:34

The character said early on that as the drug expanded her knowledge she lost what made her human. That's why SJ's delivery was monotonous & dull. She was communicating like a machine rather than interacting with people. That's why she kissed the policeman - as a reminder she was still (to some extent) human.

songbird · 17/01/2015 23:38

Well then it's a crap premise then, because there was nothing attractive about her character and nothing engaging about her performance. I also laughed about how overly screamy and emotional she was in the start, so we'd reeeeeeally notice the change in her when the drug kicked in. Just awful.

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:41

Ah well. I enjoyed it.

GreyjoysAnatomy · 17/01/2015 23:47

We watched Lucy the other night, I really liked it Smile

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:48

Has anyone seen Under The Skin? Another SJ film. I've read mixed reviews.

chosenone · 17/01/2015 23:49

Crap. I just could not give a shit about her character. One minute she was in a scene with some crappy bf and I was worried about an abusive relationship. ..next minute the whole drug thing has happened. Wooaaah no time to invest in her character at all. Plus when she started going all glittery on the plane dp and I were like Confused and the cross cutting with animal eildlife scenes was weird and obvious.

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:51

Songbird - what films do you like or have seen recently that you enjoyed? I'm after some ideas as I'll be off work another couple of weeks. Any recommendations gratefully received Smile.

ImBatDog · 17/01/2015 23:54

I liked it, but it could have been so much more.. A lot of lost potential.

admiralclingus · 18/01/2015 00:14

Just finished..... I really enjoyed it! Looks like I'm in the minority on that though!

SocialMediaAddict · 18/01/2015 00:21

Thought it was totally shit. Unbelievably bad.
