Quite enjoyed the film, typical Ang Lee stuff, but am i the only person who gets annoyed that EVERY time young children are shown, they are screaming hysterically? IME babies don't cry ALL the time. Why do male film makers think they do?

Grand Teton and Alberta came flooding back to me. I thought I'd gone beyond burying them and forgotten them entirely.

That's what brought tears to my eyes watching that.

They could have just not been there.

mamamaaargh · 07/10/2006 04:06

Had to watch it with subtitles

Beautiful scenery. I love the Tetons...

DastardlyDevilishDior · 07/10/2006 07:11

Dh left me alone once the sex scene happened! I watched it, but, like others, was a little bored. Sad ending though.

Isn't it interesting how people have such different opinions of films .... each to their own hey?

Anyway, I got this out on DVD yesterday - missed it in the cinema ... and absolutely LOVED it ... blubbed nearly all the way through the second half (but then I cried when Bouncer died in Neighbours )
Beautiful scenery, heartwrenching love story, and am now totally in love with Heath Ledger ...
I agree that the sound was hard work - I had to stop and rewind bits to try and work out what they were saying ... but the gist was there ...
Fab film ....

About 5 minutes in I asked dh to turn on the subtitles.

Once I realised the content of the movie I asked him to turn them off. Felt too much like watching porn.

have just watched this tonight for the first time on Sky

cor...what a movie - was transfixed the whole way through. V moving - felt v teary when he went back to see the parents and found the bloodied shirts!

was the blonde waitress that woman from ER or was I hallucinating?

foxinsocks · 17/02/2007 22:23

ok, have looked up cast - it was her (linda cardellini)

Skribble · 17/02/2007 22:28

Loved it, very moved, yes the blond guy was quite hard to make out, but I loved the way he spoke. The extras on the DVD, has someone describing the way he spoke, can't remember quite how they desribed it but agree that it added to the film and it seemed to sum up his struggle to discuss things and voice how he felt.

Anyway I sobbed through the second half of the film for various reasons.

foxinsocks · 17/02/2007 22:33

oh yes, Skribble, that makes sense doesn't it.

I didn't realise how young the main actors were (in real life).

Skribble · 17/02/2007 22:35

Yes they looked so young at the start, the dark one looked like he had aged, probably due to the bad moustashe, the blond one didn't look any older, but you still got the feeling of time passing, probably because the babies grew up and stopped bloody crying.

foxinsocks · 17/02/2007 22:39

lol that moustache was awful wasn't it

both mine screamed like that so it didn't strike me as an unreasonable representation but I did cringe, largely because I can't bear the sound of other people's children crying now mine are older

Clarinet60 · 21/02/2007 22:09

Only saw this last week, but loved it. Watched it 3 times since, LOL, to get the bits I missed. I have friends who hated it and friends who loved it, so was well prepared. One of the best treatments on love I've ever seen and would love to read the short story. Fascinating reading all the different opinions though.
