The Hobbit - how suitable for a 10 year old who doesn't like being scared?

Title says it all really.
He loved the book when we read it together. He won't watch Dr Who or even the Sarah Jane adventures because they are too scary.
As a result we have never been to see anything rated over PG with him...

Do you think the Hobbit would be OK?

There's some information on the bbfc website as to why they gave it a 12A classification. However, it does contain spoilers. If you are interested I can link?

I have just watched it. It is definitely not suitable for a child who doesn't like scary scenes. It contains lots of scenes that are not suitable for a sensitive child.

Sorry.

I will have a look at the bbfc website - thanks both of you.
We can always wait until he is older.
