Films with a strong sense of place

OK - christmas ideas for B & SIL are hampers with a DVD and ingredients for a dinner based on the cuisine of the country the film is set in. SIL absolutley no problem - Italian, letters to Juliet: Greece, Mamma Mia: France, Chocolat etc etc. BUT - can't think of anything sensible for BIL - suggestions so far are The Great Escape accompanied by a giant sausage and priscilla Queen of the Desert with a jar of vegemite. We obviously need help....... Any ideas?

I'd say "Disgrace" for the overwhelming sense of South Africa.

Bloody grim, though, so not a crowd pleaser.

In Bruges is a great movie - accompanied by beer and chocolates?

The Commitments and some Guinness.

Also what about The Italian Job or The Godfather?
Casino Royale?
Or Enter the Dragon - set in Hong Kong.

Lost in Translation and a Sushi set?

Indiana Jones and a couple of monkey heads?

How about Casablanca - ok, no sense of real Moroccan environment but nice hamper and film?

Or Mexican cuisine with the sumptuous, Like Water for Chocolate? Love that film.

Maybe Danish with Babette's Feast?

Ang Lee's Eat,Drink,Man,Woman could be good for Chinese food?

Also the fantastic Japanese film about food called Tampopo (Dandelion) would whet anyone's palate.

Or for Morocco Hideous Kinky.

Manhattan, some bagels with lox

@Jumpy Jack. Great idea for In Bruges! I watched that film while pregnant and had huge unrequited thirst for Leffe throughout!
