Do they only do films? If they have tv series I recommend Firefly (there are 4 discs). It's written by Joss Wheedon (Buffy) and it's a sort of western in space. It's character driven and quite funny in a Buffy quick-fire sort of way.

Magscat · 11/09/2005 19:55

The box set of '24' (like a book you stay up till 5am reading because you can't put it down)

Lord of The Rings trilogy (sure you know what these are about!)

Oh Father Where Art Thou (Funny, catchy music, a bit odd, feel good)

Pirates of the Caribbean (Johnny Depp in a pirate costume - need I say more?)

What sort of films are you into ?

Magscat · 11/09/2005 19:57

When you say you are renewing 'your list', what do you mean? Are you just looking for ideas of films you want to see/buy?
I didn't understand what Bran meant by 'Do they only do films?' Who's 'they'?

piffle · 11/09/2005 19:58

I've just seen A Very Long Engagement, french with Emglish subtitles
The best film I've seen in a very long time
Gorgeous...

Whizzz · 11/09/2005 19:58

Calender Girls made me laugh when we saw it the other night. Very English & very funny

bran · 11/09/2005 20:00

Try to keep up Magscat , she said Blockbuster list in the title. I'm assuming she has one of those on-line, postal things where you pay a certain amount a month and give a list of films you want. They (Blockbuster) post out the first one on your list, then you watch it and post it back, when they receive it they post out the next one on the list.

SoupDragon · 11/09/2005 20:02

Ones we've enjoyed recently are
Sideways
Meet the Fockers (excruciatingly toe curling humour!)
A Very Long Engagement
The tation agent (I think - Twiglett had a thread in reviews about it)

How about some classics? I've got Breakfast at Tiffany's on my list at the moment.

Agree with Sideways, I really liked it, it's a middle aged road movie
The Truman Show if you haven't seen it, one of my favourite films of all time, it's intelligent and Jim Carrey is good in it (I dislike him intensely normally)
Pirates of the Caribbean, loved it, it's a great laugh and has Johnny Depp in fantastic swashbuckling form.
Series 1 and 2 of The Office, comic genius
Desperate Housewives if it's out on dvd and if you didn't see it
Bridget Jones's Diary (1st one though, 2nd not that good imo), leer at Hugh Grant
National Treasure if you want a family film, it's Indiana Jones meets Bond/007 with Nic Cage
Con Air if you want a mindless blockbuster and like John Cusack, a great 80's style film (though made in the 90's) with good performances from Steve Buscemi and John Malkovich as v bad baddies
Will post again if I think of any more, that's off the top of my head
Oh Amelie too

codsicle · 11/09/2005 21:14

i just didnt get pirates of hte caribbean

WideWebWitch · 11/09/2005 21:16

My sister didn't like it either Cod, although other sister loved it.

Katherine · 12/09/2005 11:51

Just watched Sideways and was interesting but a bit slow. Mind you we were chatting so probably didn't give it best shot.

Also Wimbledon - british romantic comedy. Really enjoyed this although I hate tennis.

Calender Girls gets my vote too.

I'm due Hotel Rwanda and A very long engagement this week so looking forward to them.
