I was sitting outside at a coffee shop having a drink. The coffee shop is next door to what was an empty building but now has signs up that it’s going to be opening soon as a beauty and aesthetics salon.

A woman was outside, painting the windowsills and some other parts of the outside of the building.

A couple walked past (male and female). The man, in a way that men often seem to do, decided to tell off the woman who was painting. It went like this;

’You’re doing it all wrong! THIS is how you’re meant to do it’

He then snatched the paintbrush off the painting woman and did a few strokes with it to show his ‘perfect’ technique.

She said ‘oh right, I’m meant to do it like that? Ok thanks’.

After she started painting again, he watched for a few seconds then he and his OH walked off.

I didn’t speak up at the time because it would have caused a drama and it didn’t directly affect me but I was absolutely fuming about it!

I’m sick of men thinking they can lord it up over women all the time and ‘tell us off’!

Yep, he wouldn’t have said it to a man painting.

Yes that’s exactly it!

Here's hoping he got paint all over his clothes, the knob.

I was in t k maxx, the other day and a man was trying on shoes. He directed a woman of the same age (so not his mother or anything) to pick a pair off the shelves and said "left, no left, the one underneath....Yes, that's right....No, get the left one, not the right one, I've taken my left shoe off for gods sake"

I wanted to scream "get your own fucking shoe!!!"

Edited* to say it wouldn't have been better if he was speaking to his mother that way! But I mean it seemed like she was his wife.

A new starter at our work told Sam, who'd been on holiday, how to do the job. Sam had been working there 10 years, and knew everything-the new starter didn't know what they didn't know.
Sam's a man. Some people just tell others what to do, and both men and women do it. Actually, I've had this done less to me than most of the men I know. Bossy, know it all people can be men or women, and aren't necessarily sexist. You can't know this charmer wouldn't have done it to a man.

I really don’t for example think he’d have approached my 6ft 4”, 18 stone husband and snatched the paintbrush off him whilst telling him off. I just can’t see it happening.

What a pillock.

I'm sorry but I'm 44 years old and don't care about calling people out anymore (other people may not want to cause a scene for many reasons) and he would have been told not to bloody well patronise me, if I were the painting lady.

What goes through their heads!?

I agree it's not sex specific but I do think a lot of men see DIY as their domain. Likely because they're the ones that usually do it and are (dare I say) probably better at it on average.

The equivalent is perhaps women complaining at their husbands for missing a bit when dusting etc. We've all heard women moaning about that one on here. 🤣 'Men cant see dust' etc.
