Bonnie Greer has died.
I'm really upset, I loved her. I thought she was a brilliant woman and a great role model for all women. RIP Bonnie.

I know. There's a lot going on right now. But I'm bumping this because I can't be the only person who loved Bonnie.

I saw this earlier too and thought surely not as she was too young, but it seems she had a short illness.

I have a huge amount of respect for her going on Question Time on the episode with Nick Griffin, and I think she handled that brilliantly and with more composure than I could have mustered.

What a shame, I was another fan of her outstanding Question Time appearance.

I met her during DD's graduation ( Bonnie Greer was VC). She was a lovely woman and was so proud of all the students.

Yes. She was. She was a huge cultural asset to our country.

I thought she was brilliant too. Lots of people on QT were visibly or audibly angry with Nick Griffin, but Bonnie chose to put him straight firmly but calmly, with warmth and humour. He looked as though he couldn't help but like her!

A very sad loss. I'll always remember her on Question Time with Nick Griffin - she described it as the weirdest and creepiest experience of her life but I remember her being very pleasant and polite to him while scoring several direct hits. A very cool and clever lady. RIP Bonnie

Ah people are summing her up so well. She was erudite and articulate. I so admire articulate women who keep their cool whilst not muting their very justified anger at brutish men. It's so bloody difficult.

I loved her slow and measured way of talking. You just knew she was going to land her point succinctly and coolly.

I am so sad to see this. I remember her talking on QT so eloquently about American history which gave me a completely new perspective and understanding of the differences between US v European culture and society. I loved hearing her talk.

What a loss. That Question Time appearance was iconic.

I have 2 memories of her. Firstly, her performance in this documentary about measuring intelligence based on more than IQ tests that the BBC made in 2007 - https://vimeo.com/455616344. She came joint first. And then her observation on Obama's inauguration that while she was happy she was also very frightened about the backlash she thought it would provoke because some Americans would not accept a black President. Incredibly perceptive woman.

I remember her from Late Review (is that the right name?), with Kirsty Wark, Germaine Greer, Sarah Churchill, Ian Rankin. Back when mainstream TV was serious about the arts. Articulate, interesting woman.

Oh was that Newsnight Review? I used to love that. As you say, back when there were serious arts programmes on - and no streaming and hundreds of websites so it was such a treat and you had to not miss it because that was your one chance! It was like glimpsing goddesses. That does seem such a long time ago and such a different world.

Same! I used to love watching her and Darcus Howe on that fantastic show. She had a fantastic presence.

Also, I agree about The Late Review - what a brilliant programme that was. Sad that the BBC (and Channel 4 too actually) have lost so much brilliant arts programming.

Yes I think Newsnight Review became Late Review. I used to love staying up late to listen to the clever, interesting people. Loved the live, current-ness of it, when Kirsty swung her chair around to join them.
