NC because I do not usually post about Trans issues, plus feminist theory is moving so quickly I do not feel I could make a relevant contribution to the discussion.
I do lurk and I read threads, I am here for an education from people who know far more than I do.
With that in mind, I watched a YouTube by a trans man called Schmowd3r.
He was speaking in defence of Gaiman’s (alleged) victims.
In addition, Schmowd3r was answering another creator called CouncilofGeeks.
CouncilofGeeks is a ‘trans’ woman. I have written the word trans in quotation marks as they prefer to be called ‘she’ but it looks to me that (and I do not know the correct way to say this) is playing dress up, rather than becoming a woman.
CouncilofGeeks has made a handful of videos defending Gaiman because they like his work.
During the argument they are making they express themselves in that shouting-a-woman-down way, or shouting over them. This comes across as very masculine to me, it feels like a man wearing purple lipstick is loudly mansplaining why the (alleged) victims could not possibly have been abused.
Additionally they do not understand UK/NZ/Australian law and why Tortoise media was so careful in their reporting.
Tortoise Media reported the story in a manner which would not affect any court cases.
FWIW I was born a woman, I am married to a man, I gave birth to our DCs. I like being a woman.
My questions -
Has anyone heard of CouncilofGeeks before? (I did search here and could not find it).
CouncilofGeeks takes such an anti-women stance, are they really surprised that we do not want people as aggressively anti-women in our spaces?
*If you are going to watch then I suggest watching Schmowd3r’s YouTube video of today.
Watching CouncilofGeeks will give them and all of their woman-hating rhetoric AdSense money because yes, that is just one of the many points Schmowd3r is making, that CoG is making money from his angry anti-victim tirades.
I hope this post makes sense and I would be interested in your perspectives on this.
