Thanks, not surprised at all it's that type of guy.

Yet, the link between mobile phones, the spread of progressive values, women's socialisation, capture of women's spaces, it is not uninteresting.

It's an interesting and depressing article. That men and women are going in different directions, and both directions are bad.

inkognitha · 19/01/2026 00:32

At least, if we're aware of it, we can try to change things.
But it's another dire consequence of social media "flattening" everything.

It also highlights the behavioural differences between men and women. But it's so not always easy to point them out and act on them without falling into or being accused of sexism.

I am at the same time firmly convinced on one hand that every sex contains a multitude of behaviours, characters and types, way beyond stereotypes, and on the other that society would benefit of seeing itself as a group of men and women rather than "people".

Still trying to square out that contradiction.

There are multiple studies showing that while women have moved left, men have moved right. They've not 'stayed sane'; they've simply fallen for a different type of madness.

‘Left’ to me is Marxist-Leninist socialism, based on an understanding of primitive communism, the emergence of hierarchical societies, and the importance of the two sex classes in class analysis.

The modern ‘progressive’ crap that masquerades as the ‘Left’ is a fraud. It’s predicated on an orgy of capitalism and greed, notably the exploitation of women’s social resources.

Guy isn't exactly neutral but nonetheless a lot of the things he says sound possible. Certainly women are more agreeable in that they're less likely to ask for pay rises, less likely to challenge things than men, etc, but I do notice that they seem more affected by interpersonal stuff as he says - look at all the MIL/SIL threads on here and all the friendship dramas on AIBU. It's just whether it's actually down to the factors he claims.

Certainly women are more to the left whether or not men have moved to the right. I feel like a big factor was identity politics and intersectionality. I feel like this is in part what may have fueled the whole trans situation - self expression and acceptance seeming to trump everything else, even common sense at times.

There's always been a left / right divide between the sexes, it's just got a bit bigger lately.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/02/2026 17:41

One of the problems is what left-rights means now.

Right is a cesspit of anti-democracy might-is-right racist claptrap. And left is vrtue signalling impractical whiney nonsense.

Epsteain should trigger a class war. But the rich men have captured the media and moved the overton window. Young men want to be Tate and Epstein and that's not 'politics' it's existential morality.

Partly that's due to men having less emotionally close friendships which also has downsides. And more likely to express conflict in other ways than verbally.

No, women used to be more likely to vote Tory. That was partly why historical Labour governments dragged their feet on female suffrage.

Exactly! It drives me mad that transgenderism gets described as ‘left wing’. It would be hard to dream up a more antisocial (and therefore anti-socialist) narcissistic and misogynistic movement, founded on delusion and wrapped in privilege.

I can see why it attracts students and other adolescents who are turned on by the violence. But the Labour Party ffs! The unions!

And then, how does this harmful nonsense appeal to teachers and doctors and social workers? People I’d expect to be intelligent and responsible — and quite probably left wing.

Well, it always seems to be the left that makes excuses for 'marginalised' groups when they do stuff no other demographic would get away with. If you disagree you're usually called a racist/sexist/transphobe etc.

usedtobeaylis · 13/04/2026 21:01

I don't think women have necessarily 'gone left'. There is plenty that is framed as progressive and therefore left wing but is actually regressive and harm repackaged.

RobinEllacotStrike · 13/04/2026 22:35

It’s seems to me nearly everyone has lost their freaking minds one way or another.

Denim4ever · 23/04/2026 14:57

I think views on gender/trans sit outside of left or right wing labels up to a point. It's bit like how its possible to be a feminist but not be GC.

I guess we should all be afraid of extremes as well as polarisation sand the bland middle ground. My immediate family are all Labour or Green voters and I can't imagine what would change that. I might once have considered Lib Dems but Nick Clegg killed that for me
