“The person I’m married to……”

Mindlessly watching Dragon’s Den last night.

Young couple lining up to go in. In the pre-amble, he introduces them as “I’m Aaron, I’m 23, and this is Zara, the person I’m married to. They’re 24.”

Nothing androgynous about either of them.

Have Hallmark spotted this untapped market?

Happy Birthday to the person I’m married to
Happy Person-that-birthed-my-child’s Day
Etc

“One of the reasons I chose the startup life was to have the ability to tailor my work and environment to my needs, and this is what I'm doing now.”

It's this bit that gets me. Why would a work environment need to be tailored to your polyamory or pansexuality needs? My work environment has never had even the slightest connection to my sexuality.

This is so true. The younger generation don't understand the meaning of "needs".

I still don't get why he couldn't say this is my spouse. I guess to draw extra attention

Or Zara wrote it (themself) for him to say. Is it ok to say 'him'?

allstarsuperstar · 03/02/2025 23:53

Imagine having this on video. Poor Zara will be cringing in less than three years from now and ironically may as well have to concoct a shiny new identity to get away from her embarrassing past decisions.

found this.

“Zara is the first openly non-binary contestant on the show.
In 2024, Zara shared on LinkedIn: "I am, and always have been, non-binary, polyamorous, and pansexual.

“”I've reached a point in my life where I want to feel like myself in all contexts.”

“"One of the reasons I chose the startup life was to have the ability to tailor my work and environment to my needs, and this is what I'm doing now.”

”And Zara shared hopes that their appearance would "inspire others." The entrepreneur said: “The startup world, and the media more broadly, often feel bare of LGBTQ+ representation, especially for gender non-conforming and trans founders.””

Okay.

I feel inspired already 😂

Ah yes, because who you fuck and what genitals you use to fuck them has got absolutely everything to do with "the startup life" and work in general. I informed my boss of my favourite sexual position on day one!

There's probably loads of gay men and lesbians in the startup world, most of them just don't feel the need to loudly advise everyone they work with what their preferred way to cum is.

Yes but they're so obviously opting in to something

If only they...or anyone else knew what...

"I've reached a point in my life where I want to feel like myself in all contexts.”

I've reached a point in my life where as soon as someone starts speaking like this my ears switch of.

Beautifully put!
at work my new colleague let me know she was was pansexual and a vegan. All before we’d even had a coffee. I’m still wondering why the need to tell me. Why does she think I’d care? It’s not as if I’m going to shag her or cook her dinner.

That made me laugh. Your colleague sounds very self important and as dull as dish water.

Awayhere · 14/02/2025 16:27

ha ! You’re right. Sure she’s lovely really.

Maybe Aaron simply doesn't want to talk abut Zara as if he owns her.

If I heard someone say that about their spouse, I'd think they must HATE them.

"This is the person who was involved in my conception."

RaveToTheGrave1 · 19/02/2025 20:59

It feels very attention seeky to me!

I suspect it’s about them feeling ‘lacking’ in the personality department. Much like ‘needing to feel like myself in all contexts’ suggests to me that you’re not sure who tf you are or want to be, but dyeing your hair blue might make people think you’re edgy and confident. I think it all hides a deep insecurity.

having been an over-shared myself at times, usually through insecurity! I also suspect that this sort of over-sharing makes them go away from the conversation cringeing inside, thus perpetuating the circle of anxiety, shame, and need to guide people’s perception of them and so on and so forth.

I'm guessing Zara may reach a point in Zara's life where Zara realises no-one much cares.

Can't help feeling the non binary phenomenon is young women trying to opt out of something. For which I'd be very sympathetic. But sorry to say, whatever it is will most likely get them in the end no matter what pronouns they choose to go by.

Or realises that literally no-one is as interested in Zara as Zara is.

I'd be backing away slowly if someone introduced themselves like that IRL.

Or - radical idea - Zara could have introduced themselves! "... and I'm Zara, I'm 23".

Awayhere · 26/02/2025 20:20

But how did they do?! What was their business? What do polybunarywotsists need to buy?

Bikergran · 27/02/2025 16:31

In the words of the wonderful and sadly missed Tony Slattery: "I don't ask you what you do with your genitalia, and I'm not telling you what I do with mine!"

I know every generation thinks they invented sex, but nowadays this constantly whittling on about personal sexuality......as long as what you're doing is between consenting adult humans and you're not hurting anyone, just do it, but FFS stop telling everyone.....we don't want to know!!!!!

This. Or maybe she identifies as non binary. Who knows.

They would be a great guest on Kevin Bridges' proposed talk show "Did ye, aye".
