Stuart Hogg - pathetic sentence for domestic abuse

Just seen this on the BBC: Stuart Hogg given payback order for domestic abuse https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj0r0jv9114o

A community payback order?? It doesn't even say how much community service he will have to do.

And this after he admitted domestic abuse lasting five years, as well as tracking his ex wife Gillian, bombarding her with texts and breaking bail conditions. All crimes.

Lynne Barrie, procurator fiscal for Lothian and Borders, said Hogg had now been "held accountable for subjecting his estranged wife to years of domestic abuse".

Held accountable?? I don't think so. This sort of sentence won't deter anyone.

I don't usually second-guess verdicts and sentences because I haven't heard all the evidence, unlike the jury/judge.

But reading this report, I have no hesitation in thinking WTF?

Det Sgt Jade Wardell said that the force would not tolerate domestic abuse "of any kind".
She added: "Without the victim coming forward and reporting these incidents to us, we would not have been able to ensure that Hogg faces the consequences."

Lynne Barrie, procurator fiscal for Lothian and Borders, said Hogg had now been "held accountable for subjecting his estranged wife to years of domestic abuse".
She said the Crown Office recognised the "devastating impact of domestic abuse" and was committed to the "robust prosecution of offences, regardless of who the offender is".

Were they talking about some other case entirely? How is this 'facing the consequences' or being 'held accountable'?

Exactly my point.

The judge recognises that Hogg was regularly abusive, yet this is it?

No wonder women are reluctant to go through the legal process.

Well done to Gillian. She must be very strong.

From what I read, Hogg was pleading not guilty, forcing his ex to go through a trial, until the woman he'd been cheating with in Exeter went to the police herself with corroborating statements. At which point he was strongly advised opted for a guilty plea. I mean, even that... Gillian Hogg's been remarkably strong and dignified. I hope she's got the shit-hottest of all shit-hot lawyers.

It'll be interesting to see what form this 'community payback' takes. My money's on one sad-face litter-picking session, followed by an attempt at redemption on IACGMOOH 2025.
