There are no words for this woman's astounding bravery and courage. Watching Sky news this morning with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes, because she's finally getting justice.

It is an historic day. 51 men were convincted of raping one single woman. The joint trial made it possible for the horror of this series of events to be presented in public. Not one got off on a technicality, a questionable defence, a failure of the prosecution, because he has a bright future, was of previous good character, or it was an isolated event, he showed remorse... or because of what the victim did before during or afterwards.

Thank you Gisèle..I can not find your maiden name but I know you wish to be known by it now that the trial has ended.

I've had a strong dislike of French cinema for a while. There's often violent rape scenes, and of the most horrific films I've seen was French and was all about horrendous torture. I like my horror, but this was just abhorent (Martyrs, 2008 DO NOT watch it, please, the description hides how deeply horrific a film this is). If film is an insight into a culture, getting some sick enjoyment from a woman's rape does seem to be a pretty up front issue.

I feel we need a united movement, a bit like the one in South Korea, where collectively we raise the bar. I know a hard line for me now is porn use. I will not date a man who uses porn. The excuses get rapists came up with also underlined how much bullshit sits behind 'consent' in the porn sick brain. Male sexuality seems to require heavy policing and boundaries. Those men knew what they were doing, they just didn't care.

Much love and healing to her and her children and grandchildren.

Half of my above-post was cut somehow so here's another go at it.

Apparently men "on the street" are confused about consent, are muddled.

Has anyone got that old cup of tea/consent cartoon which makes it very clear and easy to understand? We can translate it into French for the poor muddle-headed creatures. Might help the women too.

20 years for Dominique Pelicot doesn't seem nearly long enough.

He should get life, but 20 years is the maximum the law there allows. I'm glad he got the max, hope he never gets paroled in that time.

^

Bet they'd get it if they were being raped.

I either say yes, or I say no

That's consent

yohohoCrimbo · 20/12/2024 04:24

I wonder, would the result of this whole thing have been different had it not been in the world media.

Reading the reports of this trial, I am so over the 'Not all men'. The huge proportion of men who clearly would rape if they thought they could get away with it just defies belief.

Bloody well done Gisele Pelicot.

Yep, I’m done with that stupid phrase. I’m done with any apologetics for men. Too many fucking men will treat women like garbage if they think they can get away with it.

im so sick of it. I’m sick of it on this site- if there’s a man parading in here to post something about his wife, there will always be those annoying misogynistic women who say “oh If this were reversed,” as if they’ve thought up something new and clever.

it’s idiotic. It’s not fucking reversed, and men just want to keep all the power and keep women down.

so yes, all damn men. They can all burn until they learn to protect women and turn against the men who do this.

timetodecide2345 · 20/12/2024 04:36

The bastards even did it on her birthday. She thought she was happily married and all the while he was inviting these rapists into their home. Absolutely no words!

Onacuctustree · 20/12/2024 09:52

The dignity she displays in her statements to the press. After all she has been through. It's unbelievable.
She doesn't want to be heralded.
But her strength should be.

I really hope that French laws are changed. Consent is always key.

Consent is a thin concept in the mind of the porn sick. See kink and the concept of 'consensual non consent'. We need a deep bowl of consent, but the transactional exchange one that seems to dominate.

While consent is considered transactional. Abuses such as prostitution are permissable still.

Not enough by far, but some men are talking about it.

We need more men questioning this.

I want to see a piece of investigative journalsm sharing how many people accessed athat website , how many people posted messages, how many other sites there are that invite such a conversation, how many websites there are where men share images of woman, how many people access these websites. Let's see the real picture of how many men...

Seconded.

The mere existence of these websites is disgusting.

I would also like to know Gisele’s own name now - not her ‘maiden name’, that still requires acknowledgement of the power structures and control involved, HER OWN NAME… Why are our press still referring to her by that rapist’s name? My experience in the Benelux made me think it was rare for women on the continent to change names anyway.

Thank you for this. Great video!

With regards to the OP, I have no words to add that haven't already been said 😞

On the issue of Gisele and her last name. I can't find the article right now but think it was in the Guardian's piece, updated minute by minute, on the day of the trial verdicts, where this was discussed. Gisele said she had continued to use the name Pelicot so that her grandchildren would be able to see it as a name for someone they were proud of, not a name only associated with shame and criminality. I'm paraphrasing, but if I can find the correct link I'll come back and post it.
