I strongly suggest only reading the first para.

This is a mild mannered researcher, highly educated, appeared to be an animal lover. Featured on programmes with David Attenborough.

In his free time liked to torture animals for sexual kicks.

He says: "Adding that his family was not aware or involved in any way, he wrote: "I will seek long term treatment and... I will find a path towards redemption."

Still blaming others, not taking responsibility for his choice.

This case to me shows how impossible it is to "pick the right man", and what annoying thing that is to say to abused women. And also that these men systematically blame their abnormal sex drive on an "illness" or addiction, rather than facing up to the fact they can control their penises.

I don't know what the answer is. I wish he was never getting out of jail.

Adam Britton

Adam Britton: British croc expert jailed for sexual abuse of dogs

Adam Britton pleaded guilty to 60 charges, which also included four counts of accessing child abuse material.

"Mr Britton's lawyer argued his offending was driven by a rare disorder causing intense, atypical sexual interests."

A 'rare disorder', aye?

Absolute monster.

and this tidbit is hidden in there too

"His abuse went unnoticed for years, until a clue was found in one of his videos. Britton was arrested in April 2022 after a search of his rural Darwin property, which also uncovered child abuse material on his laptop."

But correct, we need to move away from the Stereotype caricature of what we think a rapist or predator looks or lives like. It's been proven time and time again that predators are very good at hiding their true selves and hiding behind their 'good' exterior.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/08/2024 13:13

I have no words for how sickened I am. Absolute monster is spot on, @goldenlloyd. I am heartbroken for those poor dogs.

BetteDavisChin · 08/08/2024 13:17

An absolute monster and coward, hiding in plain sight. Abusing and torturing these who can't tell, what could be worse than that.

I couldn't read it all, I found the detail it went into about his MO so upsetting being a massive dog person.

Rare disorder... right.

Yeah quite. It doesn't feel as if gaining sexual enjoyment from causing pain is all that rare these days. It's just minimised and left to fester, causing suffering.

If we were looking at humans like we do other animals, we'd sterilise these men and hope we could "breed out" the sadism tendency. I realise that sounds extreme but I'm honestly at a loss of how society manages it.

Sterilise? Breed out? you sound unhinged...

How would you deal with sexual sadism being a feature of males, not a bug? Especially when they won't take responsibility and use "a disorder" as mitigation.

The other thing that has not been discussed is who did he share the stuff with? If there is an online "community" then where are they and what are they doing?

Totally understandable. I was just disgusted how they buried that nugget of information so low down as if as an afterthought.

MarieDeGournay · 08/08/2024 13:31

Weren't there reports of an online 'community' torturing monkeys a while ago? Up to now I had mercifully forgotten it. I'm assuming there was a sexual element to the torture, covert or overt.
I don't want to know the details, I already know there is no depth too low ...

SweetAmber · 08/08/2024 13:31

It's so scary as he was someone you would never think in a 100 years would do this . This must have been the most awful shock for everyone who knew him .

One of the women involved lived in a sweet , sleepy chocolate box village in the countryside.

ugh — I recall this news breaking and I read too much of an article about it at that point, so I’m more prudently avoiding the link today.

But I kind of want to know — and yet, also really do not want to know — what ‘clue’ it was that he unwittingly allowed to slip into one of his videos that led to him being caught. Does it explain that in what anyone has seen?

In the background of a video was a dog leash for City of Darwin that article states that's the tip off they received. I don't recommend reading the second page because the descriptions of what he did have made me feel sick.

Beowulfa · 08/08/2024 13:39

I'm starting to think there aren't enough police/prisons in the world to deal with the sexual abuse that goes on.

I wonder if the entire community he shared this with has this rare disorder.

imagine trying to frame being a sexual predator as a 'rare disorder'

CantThinkOfACleverOne · 08/08/2024 13:43

One of the women involved?

There was a woman or women involved in the case of the torture of monkeys- I think that was what was being referred to.

Waitingfordoggo · 08/08/2024 13:51

I share your despair OP. I am sick of reading about men creating pain and distress for the sake of their orgasm.

Not the main point of this story at all, but I find it bizarre that he is only banned from keeping mammals. Perhaps just a blanket ban on owning any animal is safest given that there was a case a few years ago of some men sexually abusing a lizard. 😖

MattDamon · 08/08/2024 13:51

Torturing animals is serial killer level. If he has a disorder it's being a psychopath.

Ah. OK thanks.
I don't know what this means for the OP's original point if women are doing it too. Humans in general just suck, maybe?
