This is the problem with men

I strongly suggest only reading the first para.

This is a mild mannered researcher, highly educated, appeared to be an animal lover. Featured on programmes with David Attenborough.

In his free time liked to torture animals for sexual kicks.

He says: "Adding that his family was not aware or involved in any way, he wrote: "I will seek long term treatment and... I will find a path towards redemption."

Still blaming others, not taking responsibility for his choice.

This case to me shows how impossible it is to "pick the right man", and what annoying thing that is to say to abused women. And also that these men systematically blame their abnormal sex drive on an "illness" or addiction, rather than facing up to the fact they can control their penises.

I don't know what the answer is. I wish he was never getting out of jail.

Adam Britton: British croc expert jailed for sexual abuse of dogs

Adam Britton pleaded guilty to 60 charges, which also included four counts of accessing child abuse material.

You can be sure that if women exhibited some wildly unacceptable behaviour which threatened the very fabric of society, men would have tried to breed it out... oh no hang on... see 'forced sterilisation'.

I do believe this is bad brain wiring. Though until we can fix that with some targeted micro surgery, we should lock these people up or perform some kind of surgery which disables their urges or ability to abuse.

On the idea that the women who end up in relationships with abusers just make bad choices - I find MNers tendency to peddle that bullshit so offensive. 'Not my Nigel' and 'well I managed to pick a good one so why couldn't you' are disgusting sentiments.

And all the New Age guff that guilts women into believing they 'attracted' it, and when they'heal' their 'issues' wether in this lifetime or the last 1000 then they will attract a good man.

Superlambaanana · 08/08/2024 14:00

Sorry I should clarify I mean some behaviour they 'believe' to be wildly unacceptable. I didn't mean to imply I think disabled women should be sterilised or are any threat to the fabric of society.

Sterilise? Breed out? you sound unhinged...

There's a fairly respectable theory that that's exactly what humans do:

www.robkhenderson.com/p/the-distinctiveness-of-human-aggression

Previously by murder. That might explain why sexual deviants are the ones who get murdered in prison.

Ah. OK thanks.
I don't know what this means for the OP's original point if women are doing it too. Humans in general just suck, maybe?

No. Men suck. Men are the ones using their penises to torture and maim animals for their own sexual gratification.

Omlettes · 08/08/2024 14:16

Waitingfordoggo · 08/08/2024 13:51

I share your despair OP. I am sick of reading about men creating pain and distress for the sake of their orgasm.

Not the main point of this story at all, but I find it bizarre that he is only banned from keeping mammals. Perhaps just a blanket ban on owning any animal is safest given that there was a case a few years ago of some men sexually abusing a lizard. 😖

Oh FFS!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!
WTF!!!!

especially ridiculous considering it's not like it can't come out at a later time? and you can't assume because they don't do x to you they wouldn't do someone or something else....

Torturing animals is serial killer level. If he has a disorder it's being a psychopath.

Exactly
I can't see how he's ever going to be remotely safe

Oh good "women do it too" has cropped up.

No they don't. This is male violence, uniquely male violence. When women are involved its at the instigation of some male sexual partner somewhere.

Yep.
Although I do have a lot of time for the "shark cage" hypothesis and the woman that wrote it. It comes from a place of helping women who are repeatedly abused understand why, rather than blame.

Yeah. Also by repeated wars where very aggressive men are likely to die.

It's quite interesting to consider how we manage our animal tendencies alongside our morals and human society.

GenderRealistBloke · 08/08/2024 14:51

@CassieMaddox Yes. Possibly we have stopped killing off unstably violent men at the 'equilibrium' rate that our genes expect us to.

CassieMaddox · 08/08/2024 14:56

It would be good to have some research into the attitudes and possibly the genetics that drive such extreme sexual violence, but I think the patriarchy prefers to pretend these are "isolated incidents" that we can do nothing about.

One of the women involved?

One of the most disturbing aspects of the monkey torture ring was that several of the 'consumers' were women, including two in the UK who were convicted. Actual women, not pretend ones.

GenderRealistBloke · 08/08/2024 15:10

It's an interesting article but I'm surprised that it's seen as surprising that warfare predates human culture. Maybe I misunderstood that bit.

lcakethereforeIam · 08/08/2024 15:13

I will find a path towards redemption.

If he hadn't been caught he'd still be doing it. He knew it was wrong, how could he not? He did it anyway. He didn't seek help to stop his urges until he was caught. He could, to an extent, control himself or he'd have been caught a long time ago.

That's the major flaw in that defence for the majority of these violent and abusive men. 'I have a disorder, I can't control myself', while sitting in a court room, not raping or beating anyone. They can control themselves. In the case of these predators, they control themselves to the extent of creating the opportunities to indulge their proclivities. Sometimes they just pick up a prostitute woman, go for a late night drive with a hammer, have a career in teaching, the Police, the priesthood but the bulk of their time they're apparently normal. They have control.

Tbh at this point with the situation as it is, and our jails full, what are the options?
Sterillisation seems sensible if grostesque.
There aint no rehabillitation for someone like him.

For devient sexual attractions, the reoffending rate is horribly high. However taboo it may be to say, I think they probably really can be thought of as 'sexualities'. I think the question then is how to keep men with deviant sexualities who have offended out of circulation. We aren't going to reform them. My answer is extremely long sentences in a non-punitive environment (ie, not five years in Cat A. But 30 years in some remote, humane, secure community). Possibly with sterilisation as an alternative if the offender prefers (after the 'standard sentence' bit).
