Men: rewarded for abusing women in the workplace

Following an investigation into drug and rape abuse at the CBI, John Allan has lost his non-exec role on Tesco's Board and another at Barrett Homes.

He is 71 and has been earning 1m+ in these roles. He has been lauded and applauded for the last 50 years as a retailing Lord.

And yet four women have made allegations against him and now it is public, Tesco and Barrett Homes have dropped him.

Are we expected to believe no one knew?

Do the men who enable sexual abuse against female colleagues expect us to believe they knew nothing?

Rolf Harris was in his 80s before men in power 'noticed' he was a lifelong sex attacker of women and children.

Or Jimmy Saville, lavishly enabled by corporations and Police for decades.

I knew John Allan when I was a child - he was charismatic and charming and I am sure many who worked with him thought that too.

But did no one notice or care that female colleagues were being sexually abused by him?

I am so angry at the way men like him are financially rewarded and protected.

I agree with you.

I also think part of it is by addressing it they worry they will look bad for hiring them in the first place. They don't want the negative attention. They failed in safeguarding so best cover it up so they don't get taken down too.

I think it is misogyny. Women's voices are devalued, men's are amplified, so women's accusations simply aren't taken seriously. You can probably add a deep seated conviction that the man is Very Important. These are the tip of the iceberg.

I think the next one will be modern slavery, which everybody currently ignores.

There's loads of talk about reparations for the distant relatives of African slaves but nobody talks about the currently enslaved, despite there being about 4x more slaves today than were trafficked over the entire 300-400 years of the transatlantic slave trade.

That’s appalling. There’s so much easy hypocrisy. We can’t change the past but could make huge changes for those enslaved right now. But that would involve effort, not just words.

It's taboo to say it but I feel like part of the issue is that the reality of it doesn't match up with the woke narrative about the nasty white folk oppressing BAME people.

Only one country (Russia) in the current top ten list is white majority and they're right at the bottom. I'm not even sure you'd call Russia western. All the worst offenders are Indian/African/Asian countries.

There was an awful case near me which had been hushed up for years.
