Feminist art/ artists recommendations please

My daughter is taking an art GCSE, and her theme is feminism. I'm hoping for some recommendations of feminist artists for her to draw inspiration from. She's chosen the theme as she's a very active feminist (and out and proud terf) and through that has found and loves Jess de wahls, Jaqueline secour, and the balbusso twins work. She has to prove that her topic is relevant and that she can draw upon numerous sources of inspiration though, and I am absolutely cultureless and don't know any artists. Has anyone got any good recommendations for her to research? Thank you

Judy Chicago is a biggie

And Georgia O'Keeffe. A biggie too.

Artemesia Gentileschi is a good place to start - her life story and how it’s reflected in her paintings.

Frida Kahlo, of course, although she’s at peak popularity now, so it might be a bit ‘obvious’ to include her. More’s the pity, though, as her themes are inherently feminist.

Jenny Saville is very interesting, as is Alice Neel.

Not an artist but there’s a book out by Katy Hessel called ‘The story of art without men’ which looks interesting

It’s a lovely feed…they issue a whole series of images about once per week including painting , mixed media, sculpture, textiles etc form women and cultures all over the world.

I love getting the feeds, but if she goes to hashtag she can scroll back through loads of images for inspiration

Would poetry count? Could it be used as commentary or to verbally illustrate an image - is there a word for 'reverse' illustration?

She's a cartoonist, not AFAIK a fine art artist.

Laetitia Ky - she makes the most incredible sculptures out of her own hair, and she also paints.

This is all brilliant! I've ordered the book and she'll look at all of the suggestions. Her teacher is a little bit un enthused and suggested she wouldn't be able to find enough inspiration in the category. Which only served to add fuel to her fervour tbh.

It's a bit of a worry the teacher said that.. it's a massive field and very established.

Does she particularly want art with feminist themes or just artists who are also feminists? If the latter, Joolz Denby falls into that category

She’s one of my favourite female artists. Her paintings, depicting domestic scenes are incredibly powerful and full of dark undertones.
