Talk about an over reaction. It's just someone offering services as a handyman. Only he's using husband to be light hearted and catch attention. I know women who can't put up shelves. Why not hire someone to do it. Currys offer to plumb in washing machines, do you kick off at them?
Personally I think its great that someone is trying to earn money that might take him out of the benefit trap. Good for him.

Yeah... except Curries just advertise their service to anyone who needs it without an overlay of sexist assumptions. And you know it's perfectly possible to run a business in 2022 without having to use sexist tropes to advertise your services. Women who can't do DIY don't need a bloody substitute husband. Just a person who can provide a service for payment, like anyone else who can't do DIY.

I can only see the screen shot posted (and don't use Facebook so can't look it up) but from that, he's exactly what I need!

I'm mid 50's & live alone. I have renovated houses by myself, but I'm not as able as I once was (knees are fucked & after an accident last year, I don't have much use of one arm) and lifting heavy things, even before that, on your own isn't easy.

I can hire tradespeople, but currently I don't really need a plumber/electrician/joiner, just a someone to do/help with some random bits & pieces.

As a single woman, it's really not a fucking crime not to be able to do everything yourself.

I used Task Rabbit and was very happy with it. I needed a blind putting up and a very heavy mirror hanging.

What on earth are you on about? There are plenty of home diy services advertised, no one has "killed it off" as a concept by objecting on the internet to stupidly sexist names for some of these types of businesses.

I've been googling "husband for hire" all morning but the results are not what I expected and now they are on my work internet history so I might need to find a husband who can support me when I get fired.

As far as the men in my family are concerned DIY means "don't involve yourself".

I can bleed my own radiators, repressurise my own boiler, build my own furniture and paint my own house, thanks very much. I can also follow instructions. My mum taught me well If I need a plumber or electrician I'll get one.

If my DP were anything to go by 'hire a husband' means telling me he's going to do some DIY task for about 2 years/ hovering over me giving 'helpful tips'/ telling me to stop so he can look it up or work out what to do even though I already know what I'm doing and am doing it.

I think if I want some help I'd rather hire a professional than a husband

It's everyday sexism, and does harm by perpetuating male /female stereotypes. If I was looking for someone to do some work I would be put off by that name.
Yes there are worse things going on in the world, but that doesn't make this OK.
The name also implies they only employ men to do the actual diy tasks, which is surely illegal.

I do however thing he's let his sexist ideas about men/women and their roles, made him overlook the massive issues for his business due to calling his service hire a hubby.

1. My first thought was he was selling sex, only to women.

2. My second thought was fucking hell who needs another one! Loads of women have negative associations with the word husband.
3. Hubby? Plenty women hate that term.
4. Men need handyman services. Would they hire a hubby or would they scroll on? Majority the latter I'd put money on it.
5. Is his service actually only for women (gay men?).
6. How many groups of women eg young women say 21, 25, 30 would want to hire a hubby?
7. How many married/ living with partner etc women would hire a hubby? Isn't there a chance that their partner would eg crack jokes about it for aeons, feel mildly affonted, be vvv pissed off?

The name he chose has/will lose him stacks of potential customers.

His clear inability to think rationally doesn't point to his overall effectiveness when doing jobs either tbh.

When I need a person to come do trades fixing etc things for house, I always see if there is a woman who covers the area, and of course has decent reviews.

Hardly ever is but still I look woman first.

In reality, women esp single but also if live with man but he won't be about, would massively prefer a woman to come and do work in their house.

I have had plenty of uncomfortable, aggressive,. creepy etc behaviour from men hired to do stuff in house, and it is a vulnerable situation alone in home with man you don't know at all.

The name is cringey but there’s a man near me who does something similar. He’s a ‘no job too small’ type but just advertises himself as a handyman.

It’s good because not everyone can/wants to do these small jobs. Wouldn’t have hired a ‘husband for hire’ though. Makes him sound somehow unprofessional. Presume it would also put some men off.
