I don't want to be pedantic but we must use the right language. This is fatal or non fatal strangulation. Choking is getting a grape stuck in your airway or similar. Just as we are eventually moving away from 'kiddie porn' to 'sexually abusive images of children' we need to do the same on this very important subject. By doing so it will bring to the fore the significance of the actions perpetrated by another that is so dangerous. In my area of work we have recently introduced a routine question about non fatal strangulation as so many (mainly women) didn't think it was relevant as it has been highly normalised. The positive answers from my client group is around 40%.
