Good News for Olympic Mothers
Delphinium20 · 30/06/2021 23:00
Thought I'd share some good news for women. U.S. marathoner Aliphine Tuliamuk was not allowed to bring her infant daughter to Tokyo despite the fact she was breastfeeding her. She took to social and pressed the Olympic committee and they finally changed the policy! 28 days is too long to be from a baby even if you're not breastfeeding, so very happy to hear she finally got this rule changed!

That’s great!
Serena Williams seemed to indicate that she couldn’t attend the Olympics as it would be too long away from her child. You have to wonder how many mothers (and yeah maybe fathers) saw this issue and ‘stepped off the gas’ from their training programs.

So pleased to hear this, after reading about British archer Naomi Folkard who had been pumping breast milk every night to leave enough for her 5 month old baby when she goes to Tokyo. Hopefully she will take baby Emily with her now, but this decision has come way too late at the cost of hours spent pumping excess milk, messing with her supply, a waste of time and calories at a time when she’s training for the Olympics.

That's good news, I was thinking about this this morning and didn't know the rule had been overturned. I couldn't help but think, allow a male to compete against women, but don't allow a women to go with her child, or wear a bathing hat of her choice. I can't help but think the IOC hates women.

The news about a ban on swimming caps for Afro hair
metro.co.uk/2021/06/30/inclusive-swimming-hats-for-afro-hair-barred-from-the-olympics-14846410/
and this re the London Marathon not so good though

This is good news.
The swim.cap article is disturbing though.
Haven't we also seen on here befire a Muslim.girl disqualified fir running in a sports head covering.
And a black girl told her swimsuit was not suitable despite it being the school issue swimsuit
And yet males can compete in womens sports.
Talk about racist rules

@LittleRa
Wow! I didn't know about that. Having pumped and breastfed, the later was much more expedient.

Thanks for sharing this one! Another "rule" that only hurts the women competing.

Talking of sport, was anyone else bothered by how much the commentators in the Coco Gough match at Wimbledon last night, went on and on about how her opponent was a Mum. It was endless. She had a baby this long ago, hasn't she got her shape back, doesn't she look amazing, would you come back after a baby blah blah. I don't think I've ever heard any commentator talking about a male player's parental status...maybe I've just missed it
