Absolutely brilliant news. I had thought LCC were totally resistant to listening to anything at all that went against the MA, so this turnaround is a really welcome surprise.

Summerdayshaze · 15/06/2021 23:03

@Ostara212

Hang on It's not official yet is it?
Yes it is official.
Ostara212 · 15/06/2021 23:13

It says it's expected to be finalised in July and I can imagine people doing a u turn...

CaptainSmartarse · 15/06/2021 23:30

Oh so glad to hear it. I hope the women get support to leave prostitution. Leeds CC are full of the worse of the woke Labour types . I complained about one Lab councillor who was calling women the T word on twitter , to the Party and receive a "not done anything against the Party rules " reply back . Another reason I left . Good !

jeaux90 · 15/06/2021 23:47

@PandorasMailbox thanks for sharing that blog.

Thecatonthemat · 16/06/2021 00:46

And are the pimps and punters going to be exposed for what they are..the one single thing that stops the punters is to tell their partners/ family / neighbours / colleagues about their activities.

Sunflowergirl1 · 16/06/2021 07:38

I forgot to add to my previous post..the reality is this area where the managed zone is now nudging up against the spread of offices and "executive"type housing spread from the city centre.

The reduction in trafficking of east European girls mentioned is a by product of Brexit and Covid...not by any success previously

Paul Money, the chief officer for Leeds City Council leading on this matter also happens to have been the Chief Superintendent for Leeds Area who worked with Safer Leeds to introduce the policy. As said earlier...all this is is move the problem and there is not a chance of laws being enforced. All that will happen is that the services previously funded to support the women are going to be hugely diluted and they will be the ones who suffer.

Lowhum · 16/06/2021 13:16

Fab air time being given to this on GBN. A woman from Leeds is speaking so well right now on the issues the district has faced. It’s very sad to listen to.

langclegflavoredbananamush · 16/06/2021 13:59

Great to have some good news once in a while! I suspect there will be problems with curb crawler types in the area for a long time to come, though.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 16/06/2021 17:31

Congratulations to the heroic Sarah Field and all who worked towards this excellent result.

LOLeater · 16/06/2021 19:11

I emailed Cllr Sarah Field to thank her for her amazing determination and I hope she won’t mind me sharing part of her reply:

“We’ve worked so hard and it’s thanks to the support of so many that we’ve finally got rid of this atrocity in Leeds. Now we will not stop until the money is used to help these women away from prostitution and to lead healthier and hopefully happy lives, which they deserve.

It should never be accepted that male violence can never be stopped.”

She’s incredible. Her refusal to stop, her support for women, her dedication to those who need a voice: I’m in awe of her guts.

Siablue · 16/06/2021 19:52

I saw this from Karen Ingala Smith and a tear came to my eye. NIA named their specialist refuge for women leaving prostitution after Daria the young woman who was murdered in Holbeck. I hope similar support is available in Leeds.

Great news Star

RubyGoat · 18/06/2021 22:03

Bloody brilliant news. It's my nearest city. I have to go for medical treatment regularly. We were homeless a while ago & TBH I was really worried we would be moved to Holbeck because there's a lot of social housing there.

PurpleHoodie · 19/06/2021 11:01

Cllr Sarah Field. An absolute Star

You shouldn't have to worry about things like that just because men want to create 'rape zones'.

IheartJKR · 21/06/2021 16:25

Brilliant news Star

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/06/2021 17:31

So pleased to see the back of this.

334bu · 21/06/2021 17:40

Star Great news.

The idea that prostitution is " sex work" and not the exploitation of vulnerable women by men leads to projects like these ,which not only damage the women but also the residents in the areas in which they trade.

PurpleHoodie · 21/06/2021 18:36

Definitely.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/06/2021 13:03

According to Sisters Uncut this is being voted on by the council tomorrow, and they are campaigning to stop the closure of the managed zone:

‼️URGENT‼️ STOP THE CLOSURE OF THE MANAGED ZONE IN LEEDS!

Leeds City Council will vote this WEDNESDAY whether to scrap the Managed Approach in Holbeck.

Closing the zone will only HARM sex workers and make it harder for people working there to stay safe! #KeepTheManagedZone

🚨TAKE ACTION🚨

  1. Email city councillors!
  1. Join the Twitterstorm ⚡️FROM 5PM TODAY⚡️ to tell Leeds City Council why we need the managed zone to stay!
#KeepTheManagedZone #KeepHolbeckOpen #DecrimNow twitter.com/UncutLeeds/status/1407306685530714114?s=19

I'm not sure how in doubt the outcome of this vote is, but if there is doubt it may be worth MNers emailing councillors in support of the closure.

ArabellaScott · 22/06/2021 13:26

Just for people who live in Leeds, ItsA?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/06/2021 13:38

@ArabellaScott

Just for people who live in Leeds, ItsA?
Pass. I don't know. I'm not in Leeds, and I thought this was all done and dusted, but if Sisters Uncut are trying to oppose / reverse the closure...
