Anyone watching programme about Julian of Norwich atm? Fascinating. Not a lot to say as am trying to watch and am rubbish at multi-tasking but just wondered if anyone else is watching!

No - but I'll look out for it s my family is very fond of Julian of Norwich. Her works were some of the readings at family funerals.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 13/06/2021 21:40

It’s gripping stuff!

Julian of Norwich was the first woman to write a book in English.

She had quite a radical take on Christianity.

We’re now in France on the trail of her lost manuscript.

That’s interesting. Yes, do look out for it. I knew her name but nothing about her before now.

Yes, just discoveredit! Those English nuns in Cambrai refusing to let their male ‘superiors’ take their books. Preserving the work of Julian of Norwich when it was reviled in England. Brilliant.

Imnobody4 · 13/06/2021 21:45

I've seen this before - it's fascinating. I'd never heard of her before to my shame.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 13/06/2021 21:46

Yes! And women choosing to be nuns in part at least so they could continue their education, very different picture from how they are usually presented.

Sounds excellent.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/06/2021 21:52

There is a book of Julian of Norwich sayings/meditations which is nice. My DDad has 3 JoN books! Thank you OP, I will record for him.

PermanentTemporary · 13/06/2021 21:53

Oh this sounds brilliant.

She was a huge talisman and influence for one of my history lecturers (a male one, I never had a female lecturer). Can't wait to see this.

mnahmnah · 13/06/2021 21:55

Thank you! I teach about her, so very helpful

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 13/06/2021 22:00

I missed the beginning and couldn’t concentrate as much as I wanted while posting too, so will have to watch it again on catch up - how do people ever manage on those telly threads when they’re posting all the way through?!
