The police officers are still men. Being in xyz job doesn't magically make them different.

If you Google the stats on police and sexual misconduct reported they are shocking.

It doesn't matter which side you support, cops are filth. Remember Orgreave.

which side you support

Hmm

you mean the side that wants women to live free of male violence
...and the side that doesn't?

Which side of what?

The police need root and branch reform around VAWG.

it's not going to happen though.

My best mate is a copper. His brother is armed police. Don't tar everyone with the same brush.

People ask which side of what?

Cops actions around VAWG are a failure. Beat your wife, 'prove I didn't do it'..ETC... is all the rich SE commuters want to hear.

Scum in 84 scum in 21.

Some police officers are awful, some police officers are fantastic.
Some of each sort are male & some are female.

Exactly the same as any other profession.

I've had terrible experiences with police officers badly letting me down but that doesn't mean they are all bad.

With the power they hold, they can't afford the luxury of good and bad.

Hilsborough, Orgreave, Toxteth, Brixton and early 00's London et.al

If you aren't white collar Tory, do you really trust the cops?

They should have joined the army. Conservative leaning right wing nutters given guns and the restraints of the public order act along with a uniform is a risk of disaster.

Yes there are good police officers.

That doesn't change the fact the police need root and branch reform in a number of areas including VAWG.

There are many issues with blaming problems on 'a few bad eggs'. It swerves the need to consider reform. It removes responsibility from senior management who are supposed to be in charge of ensuring the culture of the police is effective. It accepts the problems as endemic and unchangeable.

Most importantly, we cannot accept 'bad eggs' because of the level of power the police have. A nasty person in most other jobs wouldn't be able to destroy lives as easily as they can in the police.

My best friend is a police officer. She says the misogyny is shocking.
And this is coming from a person who didn't understand why I didn't.change my name when I got married. So she's not particularly prone to thinking from a feminist point of view.

She has good colleagues and bad, but the system is set up so the people who climb to the top have very undesirable traits for those in a position of power.

I've said it before on here, but my comment got deleted 🤷🏽‍♀️ but once again, this is not surprising. There is an institutional problem that needs addressing.

I know a female armed met officer (not sure of the right term) who quit because of the misogyny.

She was no shrinking violet.

It's not really about individuals (although clearly the individual in the OP is one) it's about the organisation as a whole. I'm in met area and it's just shitshow after shitshow. Corruption, letting serial rapists carry on because they don't bother looking into reports because they don't believe women and it's not a priority, murdering members of the public then lying about it and so on.

If someone says the police force is failing so many groups so badly it's not an attack on a single officer.

Of course a rotten org allows bullies and abusers to do their thing.

Some men gravitate towards policing because they want to contribute to a better society, others gravitate towards it because they are into violence and want to be above the law. Same with the military. It must be disturbing being a good officer knowing there are bad guys on your team. Just look at the Long Island Serial Killer or the brutal murder of LaVena Johnson. If you're a man with morals and you work in the police or military your peers might try to break you too.

The police officer, who had worked in investigating child abuse and community support, admitted taking pictures when the victim confronted him, which were taken while he was off duty.

He works with very vulnerable children, eh.

Something tells me this won't be his first criminal act, or the most serious.
