All are welcome!

We’re a friendly group that uses Fasting in one form or another to lose weight or maintain our weight loss. We all have our ups and downs, and welcome insights from others and laughter along the way.

Summer's here so let's enjoy getting our bodies ready for August, whatever that means to each of us!

Fridays are our informal day for weighing-in (optional) and reflecting on the week – often with ideas for self-care and new goals for the coming week.

We cheer each other on, and commiserate when things don't go to plan.
If you’re new to this group, do introduce yourself and share your hopes and plans.

Some of us find daily posting helpful for accountability - others just pop in every now and then

Relieved to post that I did manage an 18 hour fast and closed the kitchen at 6pm this evening.
Unfortunately what I ate in the 6 hour eating window today was not on plan at all and I’m not even going to try and calculate it 🙄

So @loveyouradvice my plan for the week is to get back to basics with food and fasting, and to reacquaint myself with Jillian tomorrow Easter Confused
Must remember to take some measurements.

tiredwitless · 14/07/2025 08:09

Good morning
ive had an ok weekend. I did my long fast 38 hours ending Saturday 12 midday and didn’t find it too hard although a bit jittery edgy towards the end. But… after eating I felt even worse .. for a few hours at least tired irritable, hungry even after eating. According to chatGPT this is probably due to eating too much too fast when breaking fast and too many carbs.
And I’m probably not yet fat adapted hence feeling off towards the end of long fasts as my body not yet good at burning fat.
Ive only done two long fasts and same thing both times.
So to help with fat adaption apparently low carb eating is the way..maybe I’ve read this before but I’m really only taking this in now.
so my plan this week is 18:6 fasting each day but going for low carb rather than my usual food. It means cutting out bread rice potatoes pasta so will have to up the green veg and protein. Have been doing this yesterday and eating more cheese, ham boiled eggs… kind of goes against the grain but going to try it for a while.
Will do another long fast in next couple of weeks but not sure when yet.
Good to see you back @loveyouradvice Lapses are part of this journey aren’t they, good to hear about the good and the bad days..
Best of luck with goals for the week ahead everyone.

loveyouradvice · 14/07/2025 19:28

Sounds like a good plan @tiredwitless - and thanks for the welcome back, it;s good to be back!

Today went well - 8 hours, around 1300 calories - just got to keep going!!

What are your favourite "healthy" foods at the moment peoples??

OP posts:
IDareSay · 14/07/2025 20:03

17.5 hour fast done.
Kitchen closed at 5pm, nice and early.
1090 cals, 76g carbs, 40g protein.
Protein too low today; quiche and salad for dinner and really I should have chucked a couple of boiled eggs in.

Renewed my acquaintance with Jillian as planned and did not die but needed to stand in the garden in the rain afterwards like a sweaty madwoman 😳 1/30 done.
Also remembered to measure all my wobbly bits.

hellotomrw · 14/07/2025 21:21

I just had to go without food (clear liquid only) for 30 hours for colonoscopy prep and felt surprisingly good just havibg liquids. So intrigued about doing the 5/2 fasting with 500 calories andnmaybe just having drinks and a combo of shakes or soup on those days. Has anyone else done that? Since having kids the weight just keeps piling on and I am now almost 18 stone when I was 12 stone before my first child 6 years ago! So need to do something

Beetroot! Just always adds something to salads or on the side as an extra veg for meals

loveyouradvice · 14/07/2025 21:43

Oh wow that's SO healthy @hellotomrw ! I love beetroot and I know it's outrageously good for you to have it daily - can't quite remember why but think it improves heart health amongst other things. I know Michael Mosley was a fan.

You've inspired me to add it to my shopping list!!

I know I had forgotten how much I liked it and asked myself why am I not eating this every day!

LumpySpaceCow · 15/07/2025 17:47

Guys, I need a good kick up the arse! Fallen off the wagon big time and can't seem to get back on! I posted at the weekend and said my aim was to not drink - well that went out the window and I did do, which then meant I ate shite! I am finding the fasting easy but it's what I eat during my eating window! I'm just hungry, tired and craving salt and chocolate! Not been calorie counting either!
I think I need to post on here daily for some accountability as only a few weeks until my holiday and want to be a couple of kg down!
On a plus, I exercised today!

LumpySpaceCow · 15/07/2025 17:50

Don't know whether a couple of lower calorie days for a kick-start. Any advice much appreciated!

IDareSay · 15/07/2025 21:11

21 hour fast done, not planned but had a busy morning and then had to fit in Jillian before I ate.
Kitchen closed at 6pm, so just a four hour eating window.
870 cals, 110g carbs, 54g protein, better than yesterday but room for much improvement.
2/30 of 30 day shred.

Planning an omelette for lunch and salmon for dinner tomorrow so protein should improve.

Yes a couple of low calorie high protein days will get you off to a good start I think @LumpySpaceCow and maybe plan something to replace alcohol at the weekend? I have been enjoying Trip drinks, especially the new strawberry one. They are very low calorie and in a nice glass with loads of ice do make a good replacement for that glass of wine or G&T. Worth a try?

LumpySpaceCow · 15/07/2025 21:20

Thanks @IDareSay. You're right, I need to lay off the alcohol at the weekend as its ruining my week! It's become a bad habit and because I only like the sweet wines and ciders, I end up consuming lots of calories. I haven't tried Trip before - I'm going to get some in.
Thanks for the pep talk!

Saltedporridge · 16/07/2025 20:17

Please may I join you? I started Fast 800 on Friday - totally determined to lose at least 2.5 stones before Christmas. So far all is going well; I've managed at least 16 hours fast each day and I think I feel less bloated already. Weigh in day on Friday :)

IDareSay · 16/07/2025 20:27

Welcome @Saltedporridge ! We are all doing some form of fasting so you’ll fit right in Grin

My eating window started earlier than usual at 10am so a 16 hour fast, and ended late today with the kitchen closing at 8pm.
Decent stats today though, packed in the protein: 1205 cals, 63g carbs, and 106g protein. Day 3 of Jillian done too Star

tiredwitless · 17/07/2025 08:05

welcome @LumpySpaceCowand @Saltedporridge and good luck with your goals. Great going with the daily posts @IDareSay
I was listening to a podcast on fasting this morning about how important it is to eat normally in your eating window rather than overeating to compensate. I must say I’ve done this (more than) a few times but I think the important thing is to keep ‘building the fasting muscle’ by making fasting a baseline habit and then I have been able to work on the food side when I’m ready - hard to do both together especially before fasting is a habit.
And fasting is harder some days but doing 16:8 or 18:6 now feels easy after a few months of it, especially on work days, and very manageable on weekends too.

So I started to eat low carb this week and going pretty well in that I’ve stuck to no rice potatoes or bread which is a big change for me. My crutch has been blueberries with Greek yogurt and some almonds which I eat if still hungry after a meal and have no qualms about having another bowl if I want it. Lots of vegetables too. So far so good! It felt really difficult at the start of the week but feeling easier now..

IDareSay · 17/07/2025 18:47

Eating window opened at noon so a 16 hour fast again, and ended with the kitchen closing at 6pm.
1105 cals, 72g carbs, and 72g protein. Day 4 of Jillian done. Happy with all that.
Might weigh tomorrow, as we are halfway through July, but then again might not!

tiredwitless · 18/07/2025 08:44

Weighed in this morning 12 st 0.6lb - very happy! SW on 21st March was 13 5, GW 11st and at least 11 something by end of July. Nearly there!
A celebration over the weekend might throw me off a bit but back on 16:8 and low carb afterwards and planning a long fast next week. Have a good weekend everyone and happy fasting!

loveyouradvice · 18/07/2025 08:51

Congrats @tiredwitless - that's a big step forward, and a great approach. I look forward to hearing how it goes for you. My standby is always berries, and often yogourt/nuts/dark chocolate so Im with you on that. And wow your stats are looking good - SO close to 11 something.

Welcome @Saltedporridge - Great name!! Are you scots by any chance or just a porridge lover? Fab stuff... Fast800 is how I started and did it for the maximum they recommended, 12 weeks and lost 22lbs. Ready to support you on losing that 2.5 stone by Christmas - a great goal.

You're going great guns @IDareSay ! How's it feeling?

@LumpySpaceCow High protein, low carbs is always my go to. How's it going for you?

OP posts:
loveyouradvice · 18/07/2025 09:03

Well... it's been a good week for me on regaining my Power Over Food, but I've not lost as much of the extra weight I put on as I hoped... just 5 weeks ago, I was at 11.4... I'd hoped to get back there this month, but now my goal is just to be a lot closer to 11.7.

SW 14.2
TW 10.12
CW 12.0 .. so lost 3lbs this week of those pesky 16lbs that came back on

I'm going to do Prolon (Fasting Mimicking Diet) from Sun-Thurs next week, both to give my health a boost after some rough weeks and hopefully to knock 5-7lbs off...

So - while feeling a little low that I haven't lost more this week, especially given the scales dropped to 11.11 on Tues - I am celebrating being back on track, eating food that nourishes my body in a 6-8 hour window again.

What are you all celebrating about how you're eating today?

OP posts:
DogPawsMudFur · 18/07/2025 09:17

Please can I join too!
On 4th day of 16:8 after getting a shock weighing myself at the start of the week. The app connected with my phone actually flashed a warning because my weight had increased so much since I last weighed a few months ago. I knew I was eating unhealthily but this was a wake up call.
Life is busy and very stressful and I tend to have a sweet tooth at the best of times and cakes are my downfall.

So far I feel great on this 16:8 regime and I am sleeping so much better because I’m not snacking in the evenings.

Saltedporridge · 18/07/2025 09:20

Thank you @loveyouradvice , @tiredwitless and @IDareSay for your welcome. Yes - Scottish! And yes - I do love salted porridge.

I'm so pleased you had a good week @tiredwitless ! Great to hear you are back on track @loveyouradvice . Your overall weight loss is amazing.

I weighed this morning and the news is good.

5lbs off
1.5 inches off bust, waist and hips
2 inches off under-bust measurement

I stuck to the Fast 800 pretty well (16 hours fasts, 800 cals, 2 litres water etc.), but I used up potatoes and rice that were in the house, so the low carb bit wasn't perfect. Going forward, I'll be sticking to quinoa and bulgar wheat. The astonishing loss in inches shows that eating better must reduce bloat/inflammation (I have 2 autoimmune diseases), so that is a real bonus.

For the first time ever, I'm trying to journal my eating/exercise/water consumption - writing everything down seems to really help me.

Have a great week everyone!

LumpySpaceCow · 18/07/2025 10:10

Hey! Some great results on here - very inspirational! My last few days have been OK- lower carb but not as much protein as I would want! Weighed in this morning and put on the 0.8kg I lost the other week! Weekend is here and lots of events but going to try to lay off the alcohol! Trying to focus on health more than weight. Non scale victory- worked out a few times this week!
Have a great weekend everyone!

FatLarrysBanned · 18/07/2025 10:28

Feels like things moving very slowly for me 🐌

Most days I'm fasting for 19 hours and eating around 1,000 calories. Clothes are feeling a little less snug which is great, but I cant wait for that moment when someone says "Have you lost weight?"

25 days on IF and lost just over 6lb, but I'm nearly 50 and don't exercise other than a leisurely stroll with a v. old dog. 🐕

Hopefully image will upload soon. Love my smart scales.

IDareSay · 19/07/2025 11:34

I seem to have a problem with Fridays...

I had weighed first thing, and was disappointed to see I was only 0.3kg down from the start of July! This is despite 15 'good' days and only 2 high cal and carb days. It seems having any days when I am not strict is just not possible for me if I want to lose more weight.

Eating window opened at 11am, so a 17 hour fast done, good brunch of protein pancakes with strawberries and yoghurt.

Went for a walk and managed to twist my knee going downhill, which meant I had to take a day off from Jillian, and it all went wrong after that. Pizza, wine, cheese and crackers, two crunchies...sigh.

Only myself to blame (well, DH was the one to make pizza) so back on the wagon today, and just done L1D5 of Jillian. Now for brunch.

I'll catch up with everyone else's progress when I have finished grumbling at myself.

ETA: I have just realised between 65 and 66kg has always been a bit of a 'sticky' weight for me. I need to ponder on that and see what I can do to break through what seems to be a plateau.
