Fast800/ blood sugar diet - does anyone still do this?

I did the BSD for a fair while and successfully lost a good bit of weight way back in 2018. I'm going to try it again, it's the only thing that I ever really managed to do long term enough to get results.

I think I'll do the proper 2 week introduction and then maybe 5:2 from then, depending on results. Also I did the original BSD, there wasn't so much emphasis on time restricted eating and IF then, so that's also something to consider introducing- I do sometimes miss breakfast and therefore will do a 16:8 fast without really thinking too much about it.

Is there anyone else doing this diet who wants a chat thread?

The hardest part for me is the low calories- I have got into such a habit of eating far too much, and my metabolism just doesn't need it anymore like I used to, so I have gradually gained weight and find it incredibly difficult to lose anything. I am really hoping for a bit of a kick start by changing my food so dramatically.

Today I had baked oats, ff Greek yog and raspberries
I've made some egg mayo which I will have with salad for lunch
Dinner is sausages, broccoli, and peas. (No mash or Yorkshire's with dh/dc)
Lots of water
Milk in 2 cups of tea

I did OMAD before getting pregnant and absolutely loved it. I'm an all/nothing kind of person so having a full meal at dinner time suited me wonderfully. I didn't restrict at all and still lost a huge amount of weight. Still had tea with milk during the day as I found it didn't affect anything.

@salemcooper I don't think that would work for me at all, I work from home and I don't think I have the discipline (or desire, if I'm honest) to eat just one meal a day. Fast800 and BSD are bother in theory 2-3 meals a day, but Mediterranean diet, lower carbs, high fats, small portions and 800 calories a day (I don't think you count green veg/salad)

Hi I think remember you from some really old threads @thenewaveragebear1983 - you practically ran them! Then you left and they kind of fell apart! I'm up for doing BSD again - but as you suggest, keen to add in some fasting too. I've more or less ditched breakfast so am eating in about an 8 hour window. Try to nudge it down to 6 hours a couple times a week and then annoyingly at the weekend it stretches again, mainly because of wine!
So BSD - I'm going to have to google the rules to remind myself. But I remember it worked! I exercised a lot then too so will also get that routine back up and going.
My starting weight is about 10.10, I'm 5ft4, 51 years old. Would like to be about 9.10-10 stone. And stay there!

Hi @SaltBath , yes that was me! I stopped because I was not really following the plan, but inevitably I ended up regaining a bit of weight! I'm about 18-20 lbs above where I would like to be . I didn't run so much when I started BSD but by the end I was running a lot and I just couldn't sustain it on the calories

I did my first day of BSD/fast800 today, it's gone well. I haven't been hungry but it's early days

Hi @thenewaveragebear1983 I have been thinking about this the last few days. My “lent” Fast 800 is going to start tomorrow and I’m hoping to keep it up til Easter.

I have 15-20lbs to lose. I really like the Fast 800 cookbooks and use them a lot for dinner but just need to get sorted for breakfast and lunch too. Happy to be an accountability buddy here if you want?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/03/2025 13:33

Hi @prettyneededchill 👋 I'm now nearly 2 weeks into fast800 although I will be very honest and say this 2nd week has not been technically fast800- too many calories and the wrong foods, and I've been grumpy and craving rubbish as a result. I am determined to get back into the zone properly though, so have thoroughly planned for the week ahead. I lost 2lbs last week and possibly could scrape another 1 this week although that's through calorie deprivation rather than good choices!

I have had no alcohol yet this year so I'm going to try to continue til Easter, but I also wanted to go sugar free for lent (have not managed this yet) so you've inspired me to start tomorrow!

@thenewaveragebear1983 I think it can be really hard to get back into the zone. For me it usually only takes something minor to derail like being ill and not feeling up to cooking etc. 2lbs is still a great start though ❤️

My plan today is

  • Two boiled eggs with sunflower & rye bread for breakfast
  • Med-veg omelette (a favourite) from the blue recipe book
  • Steak, celeriac chips, portobello mushrooms and dressed lettuce leaves for dinner
  • 250mL of skim milk for coffee and tea

The steak will take me a bit over 1000 but it’s such a lovely day that we want to use the BBQ. But, the sides will be low calorie.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/03/2025 07:25

@prettyneededchill I had a much better day yesterday. I didn't manage 800 calories - to be honest, I find it very hard to get that low and when I did bsd previously I found that 1000-1100 was fine as long as the food was right and the carbs were low.

Yesterday I ended up on 1200 cals, really good for a Saturday. I went to the gym and had a really busy day doing jobs. Today I will walk the dog then I want to go for a run. Our main meal is roast chicken, which I will have with brocolli cheese and veg. Salad lunch.

I like to use sunday to prep for the week ahead. Today I'm making a cottage pie and a lentil/mince/sweet potato cottage pie. I'm going to make hummus. And I also want to make a big batch of chopped salad and a bean salad with lemon/herb dressing for lunches throughout the week.

Hi all, hoping to join you all.

I've been doing Fast 800 since 1.1 and have lost a stone and a half. Have fallen off the waggon a few times, but feel its going well right now, though I have to travel for work this week, which is always trickier. And dead proud to also be on week 3 of Parkrun after a three year gap. Thought I'd post now for accountability, and hoping not to be slinking away shamefaced a few days later, having fallen badly off work gets in the way :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2025 19:27

Hi @redmapleleaves1, I was doing ok on week 1 but week 2 has been an unmitigated disaster. I’ve barely been on plan and I’ve been way way over 800 calories. I’ve just found it so hard this week

I’m on annual leave now til 24th so I am planning a retry on week 2 as I really want to get back in the zone.

I'm keen on doing 2 weeks of Fast 800. Have been awake since 4 thinking about it.

I'm getting a bit fed up of fixating on things. Have been obsessed by the weight loss jab 🧵 (BMI is 29 so the hours a week I've spent reading them really has been a waste!). I feel rubbish in myself, my clothes look bad and I'll only buy cheap ones because I think I'll soon fit into smaller ones (have been thinking that for 10 years 🤣).

So it's time to get on with it.

I used to lurk and occasionally post on the 5:2 threads , did okay on 5:2 but plateaued as I think I ate back the calories on my 5 days.

Last day on holiday tomorrow, but rather than waiting for the perfect start, I will start tomorrow by just eating 2 meals and having no alcohol. Won't calorie count tomorrow.
