@loveyouradvice if the Tai Chi course is free, would you mind linking to it please?

HarpQuartet · 03/04/2025 18:45

I weighed myself this morning and it was a bit of a shocker, but tomorrow I've got a busy morning so at least I'll get in a good fast (starting now).

HarpQuartet · 03/04/2025 18:46

Edamame beans are handy in the freezer too 👍

@StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans that seems a beautifully intuitive, healthy and patient way to lose weight.

@HarpQuartet yes I keep meaning to buy more frozen ones. My dh gets himself prepared salad /veg bowls with them in (he doesn’t eat the dressing!) and I think I could probably make similar.

Thanks @HarpQuartet for protein low down - I'm still super impressed! And yes, we're getting into tofu in this house- aiming to try a new recipe a week. I do rate Ruby's book, but may be one to get from the library? Mainly recipes and I will cook some but the principle is simple so I've got other sources for those. I was just SO desperate to get an authoritative stance on protein given my confusion that it was worth buying just for that.

That said, I'm now reading Peter Attia's Outlive - which I'm finding brilliant so far, about adding 20 years of quality life by focussing on exercise, nutrition, sleep, emotional health and some drugs/supplements only if necessary - and he is into the higher protein levels (100g and over). So I now feel I'm deepening my knowledge and will start with Ruby's advice and build from there...

ps I'm early stages with Outlive but if I still reckon its as brilliant when I get to the end, I'll come and tell you - and best place to buy is eBay for £6. Has anyone else read it??

loveyouradvice · 04/04/2025 10:17

Oops... last post was meant for @Clearingaspace - apologies! And congrats on swopping in dark chocolate for the club biscuit. An impressive swerve

And what I meant to say to @HarpQuartet was - the tai chi isn't free - it's the Harvard Health one for $30... so far, I'm enjoying their insights and gentle east coast accent talking me through each move, but I have a horrid feeling that they don't wrap them together as a long movement at the end of the course. I'm only early stages, but if they don't that will make me very cross!!

I'll second the edamame in the freeze @HarpQuartet - curiously satisfying and high in protein! Good luck with your long fast today

@StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans Congrats on the half inch waist shrinkage - you'll be looking amazing in trousers at the end of this!! (Yes vanity for me is a greater motivator than health, however much my brain tells me the health is more important!) And so impressed both by the 5kg loss this year (yes, that's huge!!) and by the 12 hour minimum fast approach and gently shrinking portions as the sun comes out... you've inspired me with your exercise approach and that for me is again my focus from tomorrow.

Dance is what I'm loving more than anything, and I've started going to daytime discos (they're a blast!) and am about to try FiveRhythms with a friend... alongside tai chi and walking each day. Now only need to add in the strength training...

loveyouradvice · 04/04/2025 10:21

And my stats this week are lovely, after 5 days of Prolon (which I do for my health, with the weight loss being a nice side benefit)... Now I want to see if I can stay at the 10.12 while building up exercise and increasing protein...step by step Im moving towards a healthy body...

SW: 14.2
CW: 10.12 so 6lbs down from last week (or just 1lb down from 2 weeks ago)
GW: 10.12

loveyouradvice · 04/04/2025 10:23

And a big hug to @ItRainsItPours and look forward to hearing how things are with you .. I'm thinking of you being hugely stoical in the face of challenges

I used to go to five rhythms and it was great 💕 I need someone to start one locally. It's the only exercise I'm interested in. I even find going for a walk a bit of a chore.

Wonderful NSVs and SVs all round!

I will keep an eye out for that book on a kindle offer! @loveyouradvice if you do ever see promos from prolon I would also be interested too please. Amazing that you got that done this week.

loveyouradvice · 04/04/2025 19:57

Daytime discos are the best @StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans !! Went to Koko in Camden last Saturday ... full of sequins and jeans and good will and dancing bodies, groups of Mums in their 30s, couples in their 40s and 50s, and one magnificent woman I'd guess in her 80s. A DJ playing mainly 70s and 80s music, some 90s, full lights etc. Ran from 3-9pm and felt like it could be 2 am inside. Was so liberating and so unlike going in one's 20s - no hassle, no obnoxious men trying to pick you up... just people dancing and having fun!

And a friend talked about 5 Rhythms when I told her how much I was enjoying dancing - she's been going for decades and we'll go to one soon together. Love that you love it @HarpQuartet and hope that one opens near you soon.. and wow @StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans that is SERIOUSLY cool. Loving that you found it so healing - I think I will too - so primal and magnificent

And Prolon - yes, I've always bought them on a discount, I'll DM you both. And if you do decide to do it, do say and I'll share my top tips - I had a much rougher ride the first time round than I needed to.

Interestingly I don't lose much on Prolon, and usually regain it ... but that's me not the programme - I think most lose a few pounds and keep them off. For me, it's typically 3-5lbs. But I most love the feeling of clarity and wellbeing at the end, and the fact I think it does really help my health.

I'm intrigued @StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans - which small health conditions resolve for you? There are lots of accounts of aches and pains vanishing and blood results, such as cholesterol etc, getting much better on their facebook page.

Attached here my notes "for a first timer" which I've enjoyed typing up just now - I'm very excited to know someone "IRL" (well, on Mumsnet) who is going to do it! And hugely looking forward to hearing how it goes for you. ^^

loveyouradvice · 05/04/2025 12:46

Ooops ... how do I attach a document, just one page of A4?? I could paste in chat here but feels a bit intrusive and I'd rather just attach so those who are interested can open

Clearingaspace · 05/04/2025 13:25

@loveyouradvice could you start a prolon chat and paste it there? It may be of interest to others too. that is so kind of you to type that up 😍

amazing @StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans it kind of makes it more reassuring that something is happening

loveyouradvice · 05/04/2025 19:45

Wow @StealthilyEmbraceTheSilkyBeans that's amazing!!! Seriously impressive. I'm more at the stage of believing it works, rather than knowing - apart from gorgeous glowing soft skin each time, and feeling vibrant and clear and wonderfully from the last day! But that I didn't have any wee warts to scare off... and cystitis was a disease of my 20s (too much sex)...

Good thinking @Clearingaspace I'll do that..
