How to weigh an apple?

I started 5:2 this morning on a bit of a whim. I know someone who has done it for years now and it works for them. They are going to lend me the book.
In the meantime I'm just totting up my days food and keeping it under 500 caps. But when I Google calories in an apple it tells me according to the weight of the apple. Do I have to cut up the apple and weigh the parts I eat, or weigh the whole thing including core? I don't want to cheat!

Don't include the core BC you don't eat it. Cut it into slices then weigh that. Though any diet that's so stringent about apple consumption doesn't sound that healthy?

Just put apple into mfp do not get into weighing stuff as you’ll obsess. The calories between a small and big apple are minimal.

InfoSecInTheCity · 15/09/2024 18:01

The difference between a full apple and a cored apple is going to be negligible so just use whatever it says for a small/medium/large apple as appropriate.

You only really need to be more precise about high calorie items, nuts are a good one as a portion of 30g is really really tiny and it is very easy to eat double or triple which can be the difference between 150 cals and 450 cals.

I do intimittent fasting and lots of walking, I'm a UK size 8. I don't weigh a thing. Life is too short for that, just eat the apple.

frockandcrocs · 15/09/2024 18:32

Weigh it, eat what you want, weigh the rest. The difference is what you ate.

KingOfPeace · 15/09/2024 18:35

Honestly I'd say just keep the apple for your 5 days.

On the 2 you want the most bang for your buck. It sounds like you're counting calories and carbs which is unusual. If you want fruit berries are better.

Will different varieties of apples not have a different calorific value though as some e.g Pink Lady are really sweet compared to e g a Granny Smith that has you sucking your teeth in (awful things 😆).

Thanks @frockandcrocs thats a great solution!
@BobbyBiscuits @Thelondonone i posted in the fasting topic specifically about 5:2. 5:2 does require calorie counting 2 days a week. I won't get obsessed, the whole point of 5:2 is that you can forget about it 5 days a week!

@KingOfPeace I'm not counting carbs, possibly my typo may have been confusing?

Any weight loss programme that has you trying to work out whether or not to include the core of an apple when working out weight for calories is not healthy and could lead to obsession.
