36:12 fasting

Mamiamamia · 29/07/2023 23:50

Is anyone else doing 36:12 fasting?

I have been doing IF since Feb (a combination of OMAD, 16:8, 20:4 and 18:6) and am 12kg down but have hit a plateau.

I am currently on my 3rd consecutive 36:12 cycle and have lost 1kg in the last 6 days, so it has kicked me off my plateau. Finding it easier on each fasting cycle and am really enjoying being able to have a full eating in between. Would love to connect with anyone else doing the same so we can support and encourage each other 😊

It's definitely tough! Fortunately I don't have the kids here to cook for or that would be really hard to resist.

Soapyspuds · 31/07/2023 22:52

I really don’t know why you’re on a fasting thread, on a fasting board, if it doesn’t interest you

Are we only allowed to post on topics that we agree with?

Manicpixidreamgirl · 31/07/2023 23:17

Not at all, but the OP specifically says they are looking to fast, so it seems weird to come on to slate fasting the way you do. It seems deliberately antagonistic. I know that diets/diet culture is very divisive, but unless the poster asks for opinions or advice, I don’t think it’s necessary to comment with negativity.

Hi, yes of course most welcome to join, I think if everyone here is carrying on with their current fasting pattern we will all be doing a 36hr fast on Sunday as well so we can be here to support and encourage you.

Hi All,

Just wondering when you all weigh in? I currently do it in the morning in a fully fasted state rather than the morning after my feast day.
I know the number on the scale will include some water loss so how do I know what is considered my real weight as glycogen stores will be depleted so I will appear to weigh less right?

Atm I have been seeing a downward trend on the scales so have just been taking it as a positive step in the right direction. I'm following low carb/keto on my feast days so no excess carb intake to increase water weight when feasting. Taking body measurements aswell and I can see numbers decreasing too.

Thoughts and comments please. 😊

Manicpixidreamgirl · 02/08/2023 10:02

I weigh every day and record it all. It goes up and down but that’s expected. I am so far off my goal, though, that I don’t feel like I need to know what I really weight yet.

KetoWay2023 · 02/08/2023 12:28

To be fair I do weigh every day that I am in a complete fasted state prior to feasting. Today is my feast day and compared to
my last feast day the scale is showing a 1.5kg loss which I know is a lot.

Manicpixidreamgirl · 02/08/2023 12:40

Yes, I have just lost 1.5kg over a 48ish hour period with one 36 hour fast. It’s the water I reckon

KetoWay2023 · 02/08/2023 13:08

I think so too. Hopefully some fat loss too but I will weigh again on Friday morning and see my results then.

I know I'm doing the right thing on Keto combined with ADF. I've reached my initial goal weight but then decided to go lower but within my healthy ranges.

Manicpixidreamgirl · 02/08/2023 13:54

I keep telling myself that even if it it mainly water, I’m still lugging around 5kg less on my person compared with 2 weeks ago!

Mamiamamia · 02/08/2023 16:32

We have a Fitbit scale which records and graphs it, and I just focus on the fact that each fast day weight is lower than the previous fast weight and don’t worry to much about what my weight is after a feast period.

@Manicpixidreamgirl @Mamiamamia Thanks both or your input on this. How long do you all plan to do ADF for.
I did initially think I would do it for a month and see my results but I think I may continue as I love the freedom of being free to eat freely on feast days.

What sort of food is everyone eating on feast days?

Manicpixidreamgirl · 02/08/2023 19:55

My loose plan… continue with ADF over the summer holidays, except OMAD when on holiday for one week.
In September when there’s another change in routine, I imagine maybe something like 5:2 but with 18:6 on the 5 eating days, until I get to my goal.
Then it’s likely to be 16:8 forever - maybe with a 36 hour once a month for the extra benefits. I don’t want to get fat again 😔

Manicpixidreamgirl · 02/08/2023 20:03

I was supposed to have a feast day yesterday but after a cooked breakfast late morning (that I couldn’t finish), I didn’t need to eat for the rest of the day. So I’ve done OMAD yesterday and today and will fast tomorrow.

on feast days I’ve been having meat or fish with greens, with a buttery or creamy sauce, and eggs based meals.

I am not sure of my long term plan - I am only 1kg off my goal weight, but may shift my goal to a BMI of 21 (currently 22.7).

on my feast day I eat whatever I want, but do find my appetite is much smaller since doing EAD - yesterday I had fruit and yogurt for breakfast, sushi for lunch and a treat of half a chocolate brownie with a scoop of chocolate ice cream and an almond milk latte. For dinner I had a home made burger (no fries etc).

Tomorrow I am planning on chia seed ‘pudding’ with fruit for breakfast, and chicken enchiladas for dinner. I am taking my kids to a movie and McDonald’s for a treat so will have a double cheese burger and a Coke Zero for lunch.

KetoWay2023 · 02/08/2023 20:39

To be honest today is the first day I have eaten three meals while following Keto and ADF, I could have easily skipped dinner but just had a piece of beef. I think on Friday when it's my eat day, I will have a late breakfast and dinner.

I do like a good treat every now and then too. Since I am at my goal weight I try not to be too strict with following keto all the time, especially while ADF now too. I find it happens more so around my time of the month that I crave sweets and chocolate so I give in for the first 2- 3 days then jump straight back to it.

Hope you enjoy your movie and food with the kiddies tomorrow.

How is everyone doing today? Are we all fasting today?

my weight has gone up on the scale, but my body fat percentage has dropped below 30% so I am hoping it is just muscle gain.

I am feeling super motivated to exercise today (probably to do with where I am in my cycle) and have manage 30min Pilates work out and a 20min resistance band work out - am hoping to go for an hours walk if DH gets home in time.

half way though a 36hr fast 🙃

Hi @Mamiamamia

Today is my feast day and I think its safe to say I have gone a bit overboard with eating off track today. Certainly looking forward to my fast day tomorrow.

I ate some sweets and biscuits and as delicious as they were, I am looking forward to jumping back on it tomorrow and continuing with my journey.

When you said " weight has gone up on the scale, but my body fat percentage has dropped below 30% what are you using to measure this as I just have a standard weighing scale that doesn't show this much info.

That's great about your body fat percentage, that's exactly the results anyone would like to see. I agree, it is probably muscle that you have gained.

How is your fast going?

It can be hard not to over indulge on feast days for me too, but I am slowly getting the hang of it and can feel a shift in my mentality towards food.

I have a Fitbit scale, it is quite good but its accuracy can be a bit off sometimes. I tend to weigh twice and if the figures are not the same both times weigh a third time and then go off the two closest readings.

I have gone up 1kg, but I do know it is normal to fluctuate during the month so not trying to be too focused on weight when it is showing my fat % had dropped.

I am enjoying my fast day - I really like the freedom of not having to think about what to eat, but equally look forward to my feast day. This method of eating definitely suits me better than OMAD.

Happy freasting! ☺️

Yes I agree this method of eating is better suited to me too compared to OMAD.

You may find that in a few days that 1kg has dropped in weight.

Manicpixidreamgirl · 04/08/2023 19:43

I seem to be stuck on OMAD at the moment. Can’t quite see it through the evening without eating so I’ve had dinner for the last 5 days when attempting to fast. However, tonight is the first time I’ve had a large dinner and actually feel full, so maybe it’ll see me through tomorrow. I am hoping to fit in two full fasts before Tuesday 🤞
Well done all.

Honestly, if OMAD works for you then go with it, there's no need to change.

What sort of food are you eating for your OMAD? Hunger cues tend to come on around your usual eating pattern so it is normal for you to feel hungry in the evening if u usually have your meal at this time.

Drinking zero calorie liquids helps me alot. I tend to sit at the dining table with a bottle of water and a cup of tea while my family eat their meals. I sort of get satisfaction being around food and seeing them eat when I'm fasting ( I've been called strange many times 😂) I use my fasting days to make sure I am super hydrated as this also helps me feel full.

Manicpixidreamgirl · 05/08/2023 13:12

I am committed to fasting today, 100%!
