Look I’ve tried black coffee and herbal tea and I just can’t. Are the benefits of IF really going to be neutralised if I have 2 x tea with milk and 1 x coffee with milk (prob 100ml of milk in total)?

No. If is just calorie restriction. It's not a magic formula.

I have about 4 cups of coffee with oat milk between waking and breaking my fast with food at about 1pm. Have lost 8lb in 8 weeks which is a good steady loss for me as I only need to lose about 1 stone altogether. I'm not prepared to forgo a decent brew, life's too short.

Twinstudy · 16/06/2023 21:08

Yeah I have skimmed milk in tea, lost about a stone in 6 weeks (I do have a lot to lose!)

From what I’ve read, milk = food

Milk will stop ketosis…

I use a dash of almond milk only 2 cals and I figure that can’t be ruining it. I’ve got used to it now and used to be a lattee girl

Cows milk is sugary especially the lower fat skimmed versions. same for oat and rice milk as they are essentially carbs.

in theory anything except water is not to be taken during the fasting period

in reality if this makes it totally impossible and it is calorie reduction you are aiming for rather than the true metabolic outcomes of genuine fasting then I’d say a dash of unsweetened almond milk is likely to have the least effects.
