Hungry versus fasting/ketosis

So I'm a bit confused and wonder if anyone can explain to me the difference between being hungry and being in ketosis.

I'm trying to do 16:8 but I have still been having 2 teas in the morning with milk.

Obviously I am hungry until the end of the fasting window, but is this the same as it would be if I didn't have the milk in the tea? Does the little bit of milk ruin the fast and turn it from proper fasting into just being hungry? Or are these two things the same?

Thank you for any clarity!

The milk you are having will be giving you a slight spike in blood sugar and this will keep your body in its sugar burning (food from digestion) state. You want it to switch to the fat burning state and to do this your stomach needs to be empty for I think at least 12 hours and the longer you fast the more ketones your body releases to use as energy. When you start fasting your body will first release the glycogen (stored sugar) from areas of your body and as this is used up it will switch to fat.

Avoid anything with any calories while fasting as it will stop the ketosis from doing its job.

I am returning to fasting after doing 5:2 a few years ago.

I am reading Fast like a Girl by Dr Mindy Pelz and honestly it's changed the entire way I see and understand food and hormones etc. You should have a look into it. I am now going to try 16:8 for 3/4 weeks of the month.
