Fast 800 keto and heavy weight training

I’m 5 days into the fast 800 keto diet and mostly through the keto flu phase. Producing ketones in urine since day 2. It’s going ok and I’m having 20-30g carbs per day. I’m excited that I have found a way to lose weight quickly. I have 6 stone to lose and was hoping to stay on this for 12 weeks and then do 5:2 to continue weight loss.

I also started weight training a month ago, twice a week on a progressive programme and I’m getting stronger and seeing results. Sessions are a full hour, deadlifting, squats etc. so quite full on. I love this type of exercise.

the guidance from fast 800 is that this is likely too much on 800-1000 cals a day and I know my trainer won’t be happy that I’ve started it. He prefers sustained weight loss eating way more calories with very little deficit.

I’m gutted. I’ve finally found 2 things that will help me lose weight and think they may not be compatible right now. Is there a middle ground? Has anyone done this? Can I just eat more calories on lifting days or the day before lifting days, still limiting carbs to say 40g? How much would push me out of keto?

thanks for any help you can give.

I have no advice but I could practically have written your post! Do you feel like what you’re doing is sustainable? At the moment I do!

What about just plain old keto diet where you can fill up on the proteins and veg etc and give your body more of the good stuff. Then you can take in more calories to keep the PT happy and keep your body sustained while working out.

@youwillbelimitedastonumber I do too. I can’t quite believe it though. I’m mostly not hungry and haven’t even thought of looking for crisps or chocolate which was the norm for me! My DH is joining me on the diet too and that helps. He has about 1.5st to lose.

Have you started the diet? Tried weight training on it yet?

I don't think heavy lifting and low carb go together. You're going to be feeling starving very soon. It's not sustainable and could end up affecting your performance.

@Looneytune253 thanks. I’ll need to look into that. Do you know how many calories you can have on keto and g of carbs? Thank you.

Thanks @gamerchick although I’m really gutted at this. I’m finally not having cravings caused by carb produced insulin spikes and have found an exercise I like. I’ll do a bit more reading on this today and come up with a plan.

Cals aren't really limited as such. Just fill up on the better foods. Especially protein veg and good fats. Stick to a similar amount of carbs

I’ve started the diet @sherlockdinner and have done one weight training session but also started a new job this week so have been working longer hours than normal. I feel like getting into Keto before I started weights was a good way to start! Very much interested to see how next week goes!
