16:8 advice and tips!

Considering attempting the 16:8 way of eating. I just cannot maintain cutting out foods, going totally low carb etc. I always give in after a while as I just end up craving foods I've "banned" myself from!
I like the sound of an 8 hour window of eating, I would probably do 12pm-8pm as this fits well with my working day. I don't have unhealthy meals, snacking and sugar is my downfall but I feel this will help me regain some control.
What sort of meals do you have in your eating window? For instance tomorrow I was planning on a tuna salad wrap with Greek yoghurt and raspberries for lunch at 12, and then quiche with spinach for dinner.
I'm not massively overweight, just want to lose around a stone! I already drink 2-3 litres of water a day and I don't think I'll struggle with missing breakfast.

I am doing 16:8 but also Fast 800, so not sure how useful you’ll find this because it is restricting the foods you don’t want to restrict. However, yesterday I had a chicken salad for lunch, and cod and lentil stew for dinner, with a handful of cherries and about 8 cashews afterwards.

Perhaps you could try one meal carb free? So instead of the quiche, have an omelette? That was you are not restricting yourself completely, but also not having as many carbs.

I eat most foods, but try to eat foods that they are mostly carbs not very often (a couple of times a week maybe, yesterday was pasta for dinner for example).

When I am at work I tend to eat salads, but nutritious and filling ones: today I am having a salad with broad beans, baby leaf and rocket salad, olives, tuna, avocado and mushrooms. Then some strawberries or some nuts

Tonigh for dinner we are having salmon, beansprouts and mushrooms with garlic, ginger and soy sauce and we've got some korean kimchee as well. We'll probably eat some cheese after as well.

I basically have anything, I do not restrict myself with calories or fat, but I have reduced pure carbs and no sugar. Also, I don't snack, not even "healthy" snacks. I have my meals and I eat whatever the amount I need to feel full during my meals but nothing in between.

I've lost a stone and a half. The best is that it has been easy.

I try to avoid processed carbs most of the time in my eating window, but I'm not terribly strict about it. So I would usually try and focus on lowish-carb options if they're available but, for example, I know I'm going to be offered cake later today (going round to a friend's house) and I will definitely have some! I also had a Chinese takeaway with lots of wine last night Grin

On the other hand, I've not had lunch yet but will have some anchovies, olives, cheese and salad in about an hour. Dinner tonight will be grilled sea bass, white beans with garlic and more salad.

I do tend to eat in a smaller window though - usually 18:6 at the weekends and 20:4 or one-meal-a-day during the week. That's made a huge difference to weight loss for me, although not everyone is the same.

piscis · 04/08/2019 22:54

@MaudBaileysGreenTurban I do 16:8 during the week (sometimes I can go up to 18 hours). I am thinking about doing one meal a day every now and then as well. For me, this way of eating plus reducing the carbs has been amazing, the weight just fell off me so easily. I'd recommend intermittent fasting and low carb to anyone!

I've just started 14:10, great to see some others on here too. For those who are further in - how often are you fasting? Every day or during the week for example? Am going on holiday soon so wondering how to manage this part SmileWine

I did the fast800 combined with with 16:8 and lost a stone in a month. I’m now still doing 16:8 but not counting calories, although I do try and only eat carbs once a day. I’m still losing weight and have found this way of eating really easy. I really like the kind of black and white nature of it - once your eating window is over for the day that’s it, no sneaky ways to cheat! I eat this way 7 days a week, I’ve had a couple of days where I’ve been more relaxed, but then fasted for longer the next day.

It’s a really flexible ‘diet’ and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

Hi, I’m looking for weight loss buddies!

I’ve just started 16:8, plus fast 800 (at least for weekdays) two days in and doing ok. I’ve got at least 3 stone to lose which feels insurmountable right now but I have to do this, I feel so unhealthy and can’t bear to look in the mirror right now.
I’ve always carried a bit of extra weight but then when I look back I don’t look as bad as I thought i did!
Any advice would be gratefully received!

Magnificentbeast · 12/08/2019 15:00

I am interested in 16:8 so just following really.

Those who combine 16:8 and Fast 500, in what way do you combine the two? Is is to do with what you eat i.e. the Mediterranean diet?

HMArsey · 13/08/2019 10:39

I was a disaster on 16:8 because I just ate as much as I wanted within 8 hours. In the last few weeks I've gone no (well, less than 5%) sugar, and now I'm back on 16:8 feeling more confident that I won't spend 8 hours eating biscuits. Grin

KitschBitch · 21/08/2019 11:26

Been doing 16:8 for a while but relax it at weekends. Poss perimenopausal so weight not shifting at present, have cut out alcohol apart from weekends, exercising more and logging food so hope to start losing again...good luck to you all

Crankybitch · 21/08/2019 11:39

I plan to do this and be a bit lax at the weekend

When I can will have only dinner during the week and cut down on carbs & sugar

I am hoping it’s easier to sick to that way

Good luck everyone

I restarted 16 8 recently. I had some success the first time but wasn't patient enough. I did really miss breakfast. I was so hungry from 10-12 but like eating dinner at 7. Now I have discovered that a couple of cups of tea with milk stop the hunger pangs and don't stop the weight loss so feeling very hopeful this time. I'd like to lose 2 stone but don't mind how long it takes, I can't face low carb. How is everyone getting on?

Anyone know if there are any threads specifically about 16:8 and fast800 and the rules here on MN?
