I started with the 16/8 diet yesterday. Basically eating 800 cals in an 8 hour time frame and fasting for 16 hours. Does anyone else do this and have a bit more expertise or decent articles about the method that they could link to? So far, if I'm doing it properly, I'm really enjoying it. I don't feel like I'm missing out. But I can't see any advice online about how often is best to fast. I'm aiming for 5/6 days a week with a Sunday or Saturday and Sunday off. I don't know what I should do on non fasting days either. Do you still count calories bit eat more? Any advice would be appreciated and also of anyone wants to join the thread for support or good low calorie meal ideas please feel free!

I think it essentially sounds like you are following the fast800 diet. At the weekend if you are eating a little more it will be best to follow the principals of low carb eating but just larger portions and to try and stick to NHS guidelines for alcohol limits.
I’m doing this as I don’t want to be quite so strict and for the diet to seem too penurious! For example I made some low carb pancakes for Saturday that my kids ate with maple syrup and blueberries whereas I had raspberries and coconut yoghurt. The previous weekend i had a few squares of dark chocolate with hazelnuts.
It might help to work out your Tdee and make sure you don’t go over that on the Saturday/Sunday.

Thanks for that. I'm off the booze for the next month, so hard in this weather! I'll be essentially having one cheat meal on a Sunday and possibly one on a Saturday but didn't plan to eat to excess those days either. Just a meal that I really fancy and maybe some dessert. I've found that I have enough calories left each day for a chocolate biscuit or a small bar of chocolate as well so I don't feel like cheating.

I'm doing fast 800 too but as a seasoned faster, I fast for a minimum of 19 hours and often 22 or 23. Then I have my dinner!

If I'm going out to eat, I take it easy until it comes to dessert, then I have whatever I fancy. I've lost a smidge under 3kg in two weeks.

Have you got the fast800 book? Jason Fung's The Obesity Code is also useful and relevant.

No I haven't. I'll have a look for that thank you! How often do you fast? Is it most days or set to 5 days a week with days off?do you religiously stick to 800cals or just eat one meal a day? I have a really active lifestyle so I need something around midday/1 to tide me over like a couple of rice cakes or a banana but I save most of my calories for my evening meal which I have around 6pm.

At the moment I'm on a mission, so fast every day unless I'm eating out, like I did tonight. I stayed low carb apart from 3 dough balls and a handful of potato wedges! It's not often I go to a pizza place and don't have pizza but I was determined to stay close to my guidelines. It was about 25 hours of fasting before the starters arrived and I won't eat now until tomorrow evening.

I often go to the gym after work and don't eat beforehand. You get used to exercising in a fasted state.
