I've done a lot of 16-18 hour fasts, and around ten 24 hour fasts.

I'm struggling to lose weight which I'm guessing is down to insulin resistance so I thought I'd do a longer fast.

I'm 42 hours in and feeling terrible! I've lots of blogs of people fasting who say they feel great, having loads of energy, and mental clarity.

I don't feel like that at all. I feel weak, like blood has been drained out of me. There's no way I could do a full day of ordinary tasks, definitely not exercise like the blogs I read. I went to bed early last night, and struggling to get off the sofa this morning.

Anyone else had this kind of experience?

Are you drinking lots of water? You might also try a teaspoon of salt in warm water - it might be an electrolyte issue.

Fasting though, is not a competitive sport, so if don’t feel well, eat something and try again another day. 42 hours is a considerable achievement already.

It can help doing longer fasts if you eat well the day before you start, lots of protein and good fats to give you a good start.

Thanks.
I decided to eat just after I posted as I just couldn't function. I'll try the salt next time. I've been eating (vegetarian) low carb for the last couple of weeks but next time I'll make sure that includes more healthy fats. I've mu been eating cheese and quorn as my protein and fats the last couple of days before the fast although I've had some nuts and olive oil.

An oxo cube in water (dash of milk) is great for replenishing salt.

Good idea that you've eaten if you felt terrible.

I find that a salt crystal under the tongue does help me get through. I've never done as long a fast as you though.
