Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Complete newbie starting today (4/3/19)

I'm thinking of trying this out. I only started researching about it last night so haven't fully decided if I'm going to fully count calories yet. But what I am aiming for 16:8 for now. I will start eating at either 11 or 12 until 7 or 8. Hoping to last until 12 before eating.
I know you're only meant to have water during the non eating hours but for the first couple of days I'm going to have a cup of tea in the morning because I'm kind of starting on a whim! I will only use a splash of milk though. Will aim to cut this out completely when I can.
I've tried slimming world before and it didn't work for me unfortunately. I just kept cheating myself. I am about 11 stone 4. Just weighed. If anyone would like to join please do :)

I will join if that's ok. I started yesterday. Well I suppose Saturday night after my dinner I didn't eat until 1pm on Sunday then stuck to the 800 cal.

Although I am fasting from after dinner until at least mid day. So it can start at anywhere between 6-8pm. Today I didn't eat until 1pm.

At work we are having a daily walk in for us in March. I was busy up until then, and got lunch after.

I have drank mainly water but have a had a couple of black coffees. I drink coffee black anyway.

It was actually easier that I thought. I am doing it because I live on sugar. I also did slimming world, but still ate shit.

I also have pcos and a family history of type diabetes. I know I am eating my way to an early grave.

I have lost 20.5lb since christmas, but by eating shit. Just not much of it. I do still go to slimming world to get weighed. Mainly because my friends go and the social aspect is good. Hopefully I will lose weight AND need healthy.

Welcome and thanks for your post. Wow that's an amazing loss though!

Well done on getting through day 2. Well it didn't go too well today... I did wait til 12pm but I've eaten crap all afternoon :(
But tomorrow is a new day. Going to try to wait until 12 again tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

Hi, I am up for work.

Had dinner about 5.30 with my son. So will see how far I get.

Are you using my fitness pal? Or similar? I find losing stuff before I est it, makes me realise how many calories and stop eating it. Instead of thinking of as being a diet I am thinking of it as a numbers game. I like numbers. My job is based on them. It's a about getting my calories right and balancing my macros.

I dont get weighed until tomorrow night, and I might be insane, but I feel like I have lost something already.

Have you planned today's food?
