I have been thinking about either a low carb diet or the blood sugar diet.
I know carbs can help serotonin production, and improve mood. Will I feel ok on the blood sugar diet?

Hi Pos.

I've been doing BS for 9 days and my mood is fine.

In fact, losing 5 pounds in the first week has improved it Smile.

Low carb doesn't bother me but low calorie is a nuisance. Some days worse than others.

Totally agree with lljkk above- I skip through the days once I’m off the sugar/carbs. But I struggle with low calorie when I’m tired. I also find sometimes if I’m really doing well at low carbing I struggle to sleep, last night was up at 3.30 and didn’t go back to sleep, which then throws me off the next day good wise

*food wise

I'm on antidepressants and I would say that doing the BSD generally was a very positive thing for my mood. I slept better and had more energy, which helps a lot. And although carbs can boost your mood, they also tend to give you slumps as they work through the system. This felt much more even keel and controlled.

Much more even for me, better sleep and less pronounced cravings when premenstrual.

PhyllisWig · 21/04/2018 18:55

Better sleep certainly. I can be grumpier though I think. My patience with dc seems lower certainly but some of that is because they eat stuff I miss.

PhyllisWig · 21/04/2018 18:56

Oh and pmt symptoms definitely heaps better both mentally and physically

I am interested in what averagebear says regarding sleep: since I've been low carbing, my sleep has been rubbish!

I'm post menopausal so it's rarely great.

It was brought home to me that sadly the reality is, the only time I sleep through the night now is if I've broken my lo-carb rules and enjoyed 2-3 glasses of wine which I tend to do once a week. I sleep so much better!

The sleep issue has been a bit of a problem, tbh. I have had to drag myself out of bed to go to work a few times, and have fallen asleep on the sofa at 7.30pm (which wrecks my night time sleep); however, the 6.5lb weight loss in one week was a definite bonus!

I can only go on my husband, who is subdued by teatime when doing the 5:2. By dinner time he perks up a bit but is noticeably quieter for the rest of the night.

I wish he would stop as it is making him obsessed about what he is going to eat on non-fast days.

I have been doing BSD for almost four weeks and don't think it's had any impact on my mood or sleep. Since my DH began working overseas, I tend to take a cup of tea up to bed which results in me needing a wee by 5am, but I get back to sleep quite quickly as the en suite is about three steps away and I don't close the door or put the light on! Losing 12lbs has improved my mood too, I guess!
