Hi All
I've read about the starvation mode in the book- ie that it is just a lie - but I need more reassurance! Was reading a newspaper article about how basically all the people who appeared on Biggest Loser put back on the weight they had lost, and more, and how their metabolism was totally screwed ... Some poor guys ended up still putting on weight eating about 1000 cals a day

Can someone pls explain to me why the Biggest Loser people totally messed up their bodies , but this fasting doesn't have the same effect...

I've had a FD today and Monday and a lean day of eating yesterday (about 300 cal below my tdee) and I plan to eat to my tdee tomorrow....

Pls reassure me these 3 days of not eating much at all isn't messing up my metabolism

Don't worry, the whole point of the 5:2 is that each fast is effective because it doesn't affect your metabolic rate like a prolonged fast does! Your metabolism doesn't slow down when you don't eat much for a single day.

I'm not an expert, but IF is far more similar to the way our prehistoric, and even relatively recent (say 200 years ago for the vast majority of people who weren't well-off), ancestors would've eaten.

Three meals a day + snacks is a very modern phenomenon.
