d&v after fast day- coincidence?

I decided to start 5:2 this week. I got through my first fast day without any problems, though I did feel a bit run down the next day. Then I did a second fast day on Thursday. I felt wonderful all day, and full of energy. But I was woken up at 4am Friday morning by severe stomach cramps, and then had acute diarrhoea all day. I also started vomiting in the afternoon. DH had to take the day off work to look after DD.

Is there any chance this was triggered by the fast, or was it just an unfortunate coincidence? If I decide to try fasting again, are there any extra precautions I should take?

Hi Seshata Most people don't have stomach problems with fasting.

Did you eat a lot the day after, especially sugary or junky food, or a lot of alcohol ? That might upset your stomach when it's getting used to fasting.

Also, if you broke your fast with fruit or juice, that might irritate an empty tum.
The first meal after a fast should be light and nourishing, with protein and some carbs, easy on the stomach, not too big or rich, e.g. scrambled eggs & toast, or porridge.
