Fasting / 5:2 diet

can someone please clarify this re 5:2 diet

3 people at work are on the 5:2, all 3 of them stick to it religiously and also exercise, the younger of the 3 said she burns 400 cals off at the gym so on her 500 cal days she can have a further 400 as she has burned off. The other 2 said this s not true.
I have been looking tonto losing weight and just wanted this clarified.

I'm no expert but I dont think you're supposed to eat the burned off calories on 5 2. Cant remember why. But then I wouldnt exercise on a fast day either.

No. You're not supposed to eat back your exercise calories. There's a lot of info on exercising and 5:2 on the specific exercise thread :)

You definitely should NOT add exercise cals back on FDs, whether on 5:2 or ADF.
Your colleague might want to read Mosely's book or the (free !) MN main thread.
Some of us who exercise intensively have a negative calorie balance on FDs, i.e. we may burn more than 500.
