IUD Coil moved down?

Hi all,

Wide awake at almost 2am....

So I checked my coil strings yesterday and was rather shocked to feel something different...firmer, more solid, maybe the tip of the actual device in my cervix.
I was just beginning my period, so I'm aware my cervix is slightly open anyway, but in 8 years of coil use (I'm on my subsequent one) I have NEVER felt this when checking strings.

So obviously I will get it checked out ASAP...But my question is, who by, where do I go?!
It was fitted at my local sexual health clinic.

Do I contact my GP, or the clinic that fitted it?? Do they scan or poke about?

I felt something plastic so I went back to the GP's surgery where I'd had it fitted. The nurse took one look and said that the coil was coming out! It had to be removed, of course. Perhaps go back to the clinic where it was fitted? But if it's easier to see your GP, do that. You do need to get it checked on Monday if possible.

Thank you, yes that's what mine feels like..as if it could be the tip of the device.

I am however now on properly, so don't particularly want it checked during that time as I have really heavy periods 😕
I'll have to speak to a nurse regardless and see what they suggest. Thanks!

@CoilPokei thought it was supposed to stop heavy periods? Just about to get one fitted for that exact reason.

might be a bit gross but nurse said to me they can even fit on my period if it doesn’t bother me. Best to get it checked out

It's a copper one, so no hormones, so doesn't lighten periods (in fact there was a chance it'd make them even heavier)

I believe the hormonal ones do lighten periods though.
