Considering a copper coil again after previous long and heavy periods

I'm seriously considering trying a copper IUD (coil) again after my previous one (almost ten years ago) made my periods last for weeks on end so I eventually had it taken out after about two years. (I can't have anything hormonal for medical reasons)
Any tips- especially for period wear/heavy duty sanitary products?

i Have the copper coil and it's been amazing, but has made my periods heavier but not more painful! I just stick to the Tampax super plus for the first few days.

I have a copper coil and I'm very happy with it - I'm at an age where I can keep the one I have until menopause so it's the last contraception I'll ever need to think about! I react very badly to hormonal contraception but I needed something long acting and reliable so a copper coil is perfect. My periods have got longer from 3 days to 5/6 which is worth it for the convenience. They aren't painful at all. I use a menstrual cup and my flow is never heavy enough to need to empty it more than once a day.
