Spotting whilst running and being on the pill

I’m currently taking Microgynon 30 and have been for nearly 10 years! I usually have a week break at the end of every pack, however this month I need to take two packs together as I have plans this weekend that I can’t be on my “period” for.
On Saturday I went for a run, which is not out of the ordinary for me. I regularly run distances from 5k-half marathons. I sometimes spot during my runs, but this is not always and only occurs during my run, I have nothing after. I didn’t spot after my run on Saturday but later on into Saturday evening I noticed that I had spotted, this was delayed for me. I continued to spot on and off all the way through till this morning and had period like cramps, that are still niggling now. I haven’t stopped taking my pill and plan to start a brand new pack tonight without taking a break as I am doubling up this month.
My questions are: is this normal with being on the pill? Is it common for women to spot during/after exercise? Is this just because I’m meant to be stopping the pill for a break this week but am not?
I also read that ibuprofen can help stop spotting which I have been taking since yesterday.
I took a pregnancy test first thing Sunday morning and this was negative, so pregnancy can be ruled out!
Any advice would be welcomed! TIA!

its not normal to spot when exercising, I’d get it checked out.

I was wondering if you might be about to come down with an illness of some kind (there are a lot of winter bugs around, including those which produce GI symptoms such as covid or noro)

Spotting is often associated with changing levels of hormonal control, which can be caused by malabsorption of the pills.

Are you in date for smear tests?
