Fed-up of hormonal contraception

Have been on one form or another of hormonal contraception since mid-teens (now late-20s…implant, combined pill, mini-pill, injection). Each one always starts great with limited side effects, but then over time side effects worsen to the point where I have to change to something else (breakouts, tender boobs, extreme mood swings, low libido). Doctors more than happy to prescribe me an alternative form of hormonal contraception (advised copper coil not suitable) but none have ever suggested I take a break.

Was just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and how they moved forwards?

I personally would like to take a break from hormonal methods and see if the side effects clear-up for good, and possibly if I feel like a better person in general. I just feel I’d be permanently anxious about conceiving (would use condoms obviously).

DH and I are not planning on TTC anytime in the near future; however, we are stable in terms of finances and employment and so although less that ideal, it wouldn’t be catastrophic.

Thoughts welcome!

My personal opinion COME OFF THEM!! Not to scare you but I had been on the pill for 20+ years. Doctor dished them out like they were sweets. Break for 4 kids over the years. In 2021 I was diagnosed with blood clots on my lungs. I almost died, not to mention the pain I was in. All because of these tablets. Doc told me to stop taking the ones I have, and here we are here's some different ones!!! (Dishing them out like sweets again) I took myself off them, I was on blood thinners for 6 months. Then I was medication free. I've never felt so human in all my life!!! But yeah I would say come off the pill, it's no good for your health long term. You use condoms, it's all good. ✨️
