Mirena coil no bleeding and no pain?!

Hi all I finally got the mirena coil inserted last week to try help with my heavy periods. I read 100s of threads on what to expect and 99% of them was pain and bleeding.

I had zero pain during insertion and no pain since! I had spotting for 12 hours after insertion then nothing! It seems too good go be true I'm starting to worry its not in the right place or something? I'm 32 and have 2 children.

Anyone else had the mirena go this smoothly or am I jinxing myself?!

Mine didn’t hurt when put in either, and no cramping after. Although I did have spotting for 7 months, and was about to have it out when it just stopped.
I wish I’d had one years ago.

Greenbriar · 10/03/2024 07:28

It was the same for me, and I’ve been on Mirena since 2016 so have had it done more than once now.

Edited to say I’ve had no periods while on it.

MagpiePi · 10/03/2024 07:31

I have had two coils and never had more than mild discomfort when they were put in.
@DustyLee123 Same for me! I was just at the point of having further investigations to see if there was something sinister going on.

Mine didn't hurt. An experienced "fitter" is all it takes to prevent pain.

Imtiredx100 · 10/03/2024 08:28

I'm more confused about no spotting at all? Expected to spot for months!

Had anyone else had no spotting from the moment it was inserted?

Me. My periods, which were very heavy, started to become less heavy from the start and by 5 months had stopped completely.
The thing is, you only really hear about the downside of these things. People love to tell a horror story. ‘Nope, my fitting went well” isn’t quite as interesting!

Me. I'm in my 5th mirena coil and have never had any spotting. It's been life changing.

*on my 5th

I'm on my 2nd Mirena and haven't had a period since. It's the reason I got one. No spotting either.

Imtiredx100 · 12/03/2024 14:40

Brilliant thank you all! It's true I read so many horror stories so don't seem to feel right that I'm just one of the lucky ones!

Second coil for me. I had mild pain and cramping after insertion but no spotting. Periods tailed off gradually over about 12 months.

MrWilyFoxIsBack · 12/03/2024 15:04

First coil - insertion was a bit unpleasant but then just mild spotting for a few months and then it has been absolutely great - no periods for four years. Life changing, yes.

NCForQuestions · 12/03/2024 15:10

Good for you! My first insertion was nothing like as bad as my second (which was horrific).

Ihad more or less normal periods with appalling period pain for the first six months of this one, but I'm down to a day of spotting approx every 90 days (from using super plus extra tampons every 2hrs for ten days at a time...).

Everyone experience will be very different and despite the bad insertion this time I'd still recommend it to most women.

hby9628 · 12/03/2024 18:22

Mine was the same as yours I had no spotting or pain but after about 12 months I started to get tender boobs and very very light spotting once a month. I did speak to the dr but she said that this can happen

You are one of the majority. No trouble here either, with two Mirenas.

UpTheAnte · 12/03/2024 18:51

I am on my second, no bleeding at all with either. I had very mild cramps for a day or so after the first one was put in. The second though was completely different, a good 24 hours of incredible pain then it stopped 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm not sure whether I will go for a 3rd.

Snozzlemaid · 12/03/2024 19:11

For my first one I had no bleeding, no pain on insertion and no cramps.
The insertion of the second one was a little uncomfortable but I had just had the first one removed also, so may have been a bit tender there from that.
But again, no bleeding and no cramping.
